Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

LOL, very funny, I know I don't really need any more chicks but do WANT a couple Marans. So wanted
to get them soon so they are all closer in age. My cream legbars were delayed, so don't get them til next week.
How do I PM Illia if I cannot find a post of hers? Have been trying to figure it out . . . also wanted to PM CowGirlGrace
but don't see any posts of hers either. I'm not as tech savvy as I thought!
Retirement is going great, but am busy, busy. Trying to get a strawberry bed fixed up so I can plant those nice starts
you gave me. Thanks for all your help.
Glad to hear your babies are growing big.
I've got Illia's contact information somewhere around here...I'll get back to you soon by PM.
Gotta run for now, back to back client meetings all day.
Enjoy your busy retirement days!!!

Thank you Carolyn. It just perched there for as long as I wanted. So did the others. Such calm little birds. They are already showing very diverse personalities. It is so fun.

When you get home I'm coming over to play with these little fluff balls!

My phone is acting up, so I can't quote. Grrr! but I wanted to share:

I saw this last night and burst out laughing... but I was too pooped to hit the Reply button! Thanks.

This one is from a few days ago. The darkness really brings out the buff/golden feathers in the picture, but in normal light they're slightly more muted.

Just for fun, here's one of my psychotic BLRWs that I affectionately call the Christmas Geese (still sound goosey!). I got her and her sister from Ron last summer.

Very Pretty Girls!! And hunters, too? That's a good combination.... kinda like FarminMomma, small, cute, and dangerous.... (just kiddin' Sarah... I couldn't resist)

The temporary roof blew off my temporary coop today so dodging hell and high water to get the chickens covered. Then I found the nut had come off the bottom of the feeder- spilled a full feeder on the floor of the tractor- and could not find that nut. I swear I am going to get one of those magnets w/a long handle that they sell at Harbor Freight. DH keeps saying those are not a necessary item when we are there and I always get guilted into putting them back. That unneccesary item could have retreived that nut rather promptly, I am pretty sure?

Had a couple bits of good news today- possibly some extra help and services for my son. That would be a blessing. Talked to an old friend- out of the blue decided to call her- haven't talked more than twice in 3 years. Something was telling me to call. Come to find out, she needed my call- and my help.

We have absolutely GOT to get the chicken house done- we've got chicks bursting from the seams here! There's 16 in my back room, 3 silkies in my living room in a dog kennel, a broody in the temp chicken house (dog house) and 13 hens that want to run amuk outside freely-- and can't-- because they need a safe area away from our cats. Good grief- can ya rent family members? My DH is working like a dog at his job- and I need to clone him so he can also be here fixing my chicken house!

Get the magnet thing... just go by yourself and avoid guilt thing. Just count all the times you could have already used it!
Good thing you called your friend... gotta listen to those inner voices.

Bribe VF and see if you can get him over to help sooner than later?

Thanks so much for your input. I am honestly not sure whether my girl was #3 or #1. She was the largest, and at one time I thought she was #1, but then when they'd free range the other 2 would stay together while she roamed alone. I'm not sure if that meant she was more independent or she was "left out."

The other 2 are only about 5 months old, so I guess they're at a good age for adding another gal. I appreciate that you think adding just one would work ok.
I am going to have to try to hook up with cowgirlgrace or raincreek. My folks live in Port Orchard, so that's not a problem for me.
Thanks again!

When my 3 free range, #3 will typically be by herself more often than #1. When the order is most apparent is at the feed or when I toss treats on the ground. #1 will peck at the others if they try to eat first.

Pix of my dogs. My puppy is growing up so fast. In a few weeks i'll be abel to get pix of him around the chickens when they are free ranging. Right now I can't because I spread grass seed. have to wait for it to really take root.

CR- I am so happy that you are getting your plasma cutter back

Illia has not been around for several months. Here is her avatar pic to show her awesome egg colors.

Yeah, I was going to say some time ago that I missed seeing Illia around here. Her posts were always so informative. Is she posting at all on the board? Has anyone spoken to her lately? I hope she and her family are okay...

How old are they? Are they fully feathered?

I am such a softy. I like to give them a heat lamp at night when I introduce them outdoors because it makes me happy.

Bringing them in and out can be a royal PITA, depending on how many you have. I prefer just to wait. It's hard this time of year, waiting for the temps to finally get warmer. Even my adult flock, I am cold just thinking about them out there at night with no extra heat. Brrrrrrrrrrr!
they are still pretty young, not 6 weeks yet but have a lot of feathers now. We will use a light for sure.

Dog in second pic looks like he is saying "don't touch the shirt" just like a big brother would
