Finally someone gets it! Birth is NOT a reason to go to the hospital UNLESS mother or baby are suspected to be ill. Birth is not a sickness! I find it so strange that everyone else in the hospital is sick, but the maternity ward. Why bring a baby into the world in a house of sickness? Ew. I'd much rather be at my own home knowing my baby is safe and well. And don't get me started on the exploitation of finances/insurance related to "necessary procedures" during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. Ugh.

I think where one decides to give birth is a very individual thing. Personally, I would never do it at home. I would rather be at the hospital in case something happened with the baby. To me, it seems risky to not be there. Modern medicine drastically reduced the number of deaths from childbirth. It seems crazy to me to not take advantage of that. To each, her own.

It's not good when a rescue is creating more animals that need to be rescued. I wish more rescues would euth animals that aren't being adopted to make room for another animal that might have a chance. The reality is there just aren't enough homes out there and a humane death is better for the animal than the bad situation they came from.

And yes, I do believe all women have the right to feel comfortable where they birth, but I also don't think MOST women research alternative birth options; ALL of my friends had NO clue that there was an option to birth anywhere but a hospital, with an epidural or huge amounts of drugs, and almost everyone I know is completely afraid of birth. Our bodies were designed to give birth, there's nothing to fear. Women are strong and courageous and can give birth naturally and feel so empowered, but many are never given that chance due to modern medicine. Quite sad.

Doctors never have the right to do anything to you without your consent. Are you kidding? With all the lawsuits these days, you practically have to sign away the right to your firstborn before they will touch you. I do agree that the c-section rate is too high here in the US, but you can lay the blame for that at the feet of us litigious Americans. Many OBs are no longer practicing because they can't afford the malpractice insurance. Doctors are so afraid of being sued if something goes wrong with the birth, that they jump to surgery too quickly. I think putting a cap on the dollar amount people can be awarded in a malpractice lawsuit would go a long way towards solving the problem.

It's the responsibility of each person to do their research about options and possibilities. In today's info overload society, if you don't know about options, it's because you haven't bothered to look.

I get tired of doctors, hospitals, vaccines, etc being criticized. Personally, I'd rather live in a world where these things are available than the alternative. If someone doesn't want to use them, that's their business. But don't assume that the only reason someone would want to give birth in a hospital with their doctor and an epidural is because they don't know any better.
