Doctors never have the right to do anything to you without your consent. Are you kidding? With all the lawsuits these days, you practically have to sign away the right to your firstborn before they will touch you. I do agree that the c-section rate is too high here in the US, but you can lay the blame for that at the feet of us litigious Americans. Many OBs are no longer practicing because they can't afford the malpractice insurance. Doctors are so afraid of being sued if something goes wrong with the birth, that they jump to surgery too quickly. I think putting a cap on the dollar amount people can be awarded in a malpractice lawsuit would go a long way towards solving the problem.
It's the responsibility of each person to do their research about options and possibilities. In today's info overload society, if you don't know about options, it's because you haven't bothered to look.
I get tired of doctors, hospitals, vaccines, etc being criticized. Personally, I'd rather live in a world where these things are available than the alternative. If someone doesn't want to use them, that's their business. But don't assume that the only reason someone would want to give birth in a hospital with their doctor and an epidural is because they don't know any better.
