Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Chicks due to hatch tomorrow. I'm checking the 4 in the incubator to see if there are any pips and no... But! I did take a photo yesterday to see if they had changed position at all to indicate they were rolling on their own and one is very definitely in a new spot! Was it the chick or earth tremor that made it move? The suspense is killing me here.

Can't watch them today though. I'm heading off to the theater for Little Shop of Horrors rehearsal and then hosting a spaghetti dinner/wine tasting fundraiser at the shop so I'll be there cooking and serving most of the night.

If those chicks hatch while I'm gone they're going to miss seeing the giant mama with her face pressed against the window now.

Come on chicks... open, open, open!

Breath deeply and go to your inner quiet space. I promise you'll be ok!

I'm already worried about my chicks. When mama raised the last ones I never saw them or worried about them. How much is TOO much sleep?! They're seriously only like 2-3 days old and 3/4 of them had umbilicals still when I brought them home. Tiny ones! But they seem to be sleeping and only awake for mere minutes at a time. I guess that's normal I just don't remember ;)

Our chicks seemed to be on a 5-minute cycle of sleep, eat, poop, explore. :)

They are fine, it is normal

Mine got progressively later. 4 days past due. 8 days past due. 13 days past due. Another few hours and my midwife would have legally had to transfer me to the hospital or lie about my dates ;) Guess it's cozy in there.
My DW had our first 2.5 weeks early with 26hr labor, popped out a 7lb 11oz boy. Next one was just under a month early and 7lb 3 oz. Of course we had to do hospitals since they thought the babies were premies. Her tiny body just couldn't cook them any longer and said, nope time to come out and play.

Hi Jess, when I got my chicks from CGG they were a about 4 or 5 days old. They slept a LOT. They would stand up, preen or chirp or take a bit of food, and in the middle of whatever they were doing they'd collapse and fall asleep again. The first few hours it worried me! But a couple minutes later they'd do the same thing all over. So I decided that must be normal.

The next day I went to get the Gold Star who was 2 days older. When I got her home I really thought something was wrong because she slept almost continuously for 12 hours. By the next morning she was fine. We decided that be alone for a while then being a singleton put in with 3 others (even though slightly younger) had really tired her out.

It's CHICK TV! Enjoy!

I have one that has become VERY vocal today. From the sound and volume you'd think she was being tortured. No.... she/he just wants attention. If I reach in to do something she jumps onto my arm. When I walk away the "crying" begins again. Sheesh! (They'll be 4 weeks in a couple days.)

So after all the snow melted away yesterday the sun came out strong and warm. So my older DD and I brought the chicks out of the house brooder to play out side for a bit.

This is Hippy! She loves to have her picture taken. She was in 76 pics, out of 103 that I took of them yesterday.

Her "sister" Afro Diddy. The kids named all of these chicks.

I just thought this was a funny photo bomb, by Sushi.

Then Sushi found her first worm.

So cute!

It looks like Banana laid an egg already, but that is just a snow ball that made it inside the pen. Along with a bunch of fluffy butts. And of course Ratchet.

This one in the front is Oreo. Her, Afro Diddy and Hippy are from Wachicklady. (Hope I got her name right LOL)

All the way to the right is Banana.

This is Dale. (as in Dale Earnhardt) But she is a girl. Oh well.

Chocolate chip is being cute and enjoying the sun, when all of a sudden......

Sushi comes along and grabs Sushi's eye lid. What a brat.

This little Road Island Red, well I do not remember what her name is. Whoops

BTW We took a little road trip to Portland last night to meet Jeanine (Cloverleaf Farm) and her DH and the man cub. We made a multipurpose trip out of it.
First they gave me back my Plasma cutter that is now repaired.

Then we had a fun dinner at Izzy's. And while there it seems that somebody

Decided to do an impromptu birthday party for Jeanine since it was the day before her B day. Jeanine was pretty surprised when the servers showed up with a cupcake that had a candle(??) in it. Let me tell ya when they lit that FOUNTAIN yes it was like a fireworks fountain. I was seriously looking for the locations of fire extinguishers ! ! !

It was a very nice evening.

I sure wish we lived closer so we could visit more often.

At the show I forgot to tell ya that one of the BCM chicks that I got from you, has this weird webbed, curled deformed toe thing going on. It is no big deal, she has no problem getting around and no one picks on her for it. I just thought I would let ya know. I still can't believe how big they are. My chicks were hatched the 2nd of January and those from you were sometime in December. They are not that far apart in age and yet the BMCs are soooo much bigger.

Did you mean Dale as in Dale Evans, wife and side kick to Roy Rogers?
