Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

What a great day already!! House is spotless and ready for my Grandma to come stay (she arrives this afternoon from CA). John already did 1.5hrs of school and we got a lot done. Laundry done, dishes done, I'm wandering around looking for clutter that I wouldn't usually deal with so the house can be spotless, but I can't find anything else to clean! LOL Guess I could hose off the back patio so we can grill for dinner tonight. DH is doing our taxes today (2nd appoinment) and it's a bummer we owe several grand. It's the pits working for yourself sometimes! LOL

Tomorrow we're doing an Easter egg hunt with the kids and going to meet the WA troll under the bridge.

Hi everyone!

I was on here for a bit about a year ago, gathering info, and am happy to say that I now have my chicks! I have been reading the boards and this thread for months, but it is so hard to keep up :) I figured I just better jump in!

We have 5 silkies that we hatched and we just recently got a some new babies. These are the Silkies at 4 weeks.

Do you mean the fremont troll?

Sorry, Lovinchickypoos, I'll take them over nuclear waste anyday.

Try living next to them ;) Fortunately, the ones near me are not too near. There is no way they will ever take over our power needs. I HATE the fact that there is nuclear waste and we absolutely need an alternative to that and coal, ect, but after learning about the windmills they are not the answer we hoped for. Look into how much oil and lubricants it takes to run them, let alone for the machinery it takes to get them set up. I was suprised about some of the problems people have when they are too close to residents.
I totally respect other opinions and REALLY don't want this to start a political war! I've just learned you can't take the word of the media for granted. Hard to know the truth anymore :(

psssttt......if you are headed to see the Fremont troll, then you ought to plan to stop at Flying Apron GF bakery..... and the Theo chocolate factory tour too!
Oh- and you would be close to the pier where the cruise ships come in (Pier 101).

(also- the place that sells fishing nets for cheap- where I got my 10 x 55 net for $35....it's very close to Fremont/Ballard- advertised on CL)

Quote: Yes Ma'am, I have. I lived in Iowa, plenty o'windmills. I know that when gathering energy through free and natural resources, such as, wind, rain & solar, there's more than plenty to sustain. It's the fact that people have a problem with how something looks, or what kind of eyesore it is, when in actuallity, it's the only answer. Sure, let's go bury our nuclear waste barrels under a school's playground, if that makes it better to enjoy the scenary. They sure don't know what to do with them now. They try to ship it off to NM, but NM don't want it. So it sit's in your and my back yard. Yup, I am happy with windmills and solar fields. In Audrey's Dream World, every builder would be required to install renewable energy in every home across the world. And the communities could puddle together a fund for conversion systems.

ending my rant, just a VERY passionate subject. I also have plans to "green" the desert, because they have also developed a way to reduce the soil in the sands so that they can have viable crops and water sources.....crazy crazy crazy that we can throw money at sexing snails, but can't heal the Earth. Love that you guys brought up Michael Reynold's Earthships, love the work they have been doing. I just don't believe in "impossible" it doesn't exist in my world.

Driving to Portland for a concert and mini-vaca. Disgusted by the view thru the Gorge. Those hideous windmills are everywhere! I'm plagued by them at home to as they mess up the view of the hills. If you think those monstrosities are wonderful green energy machines, tgink again! Look into what it takes to put those things up! You would be amazed at how un-green they are. If you have Netflix watch Windfall.
It costs more then they produce. Without the gvt (we the people) subsidies there wouldn't be any. If you have ever lived near one (I have) the constant hum of them turning or the whine or squeek (they all do eventually) will drive you insane. It even affects your dogs and birds.
Everytime I look at my electric bill and see how much I spend for those darn things my heart rate goes through the roof.

your Coca looks like the one I call Star. (At my house, chickens only gets names if they are friendly, otherise they are just "the girls'. ) We also have a Buffy the BO.

Our black star we got a couple months ago is super-friendly and curious, she just loves to be held and petted- no wing-flapping when picked up. I took her picture last night when we did the big coop switch. She's just a nice, calm hen.
