Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I can't believe I found this Pottery Barn Kids Jumbo Fun On the Farm Stacker at a garage sale for $10.00. We have a brand new niece who is going to love it. She is growing up on a small farm, and it will fit in perfect with their decor.

Who, on earth, would pay $99.00 for a stacking baby toy?

Here are some better pics....
This one I think is the younger of the three, due to her lack of tail feathers and more 'fluff' than the other two

Here is one of the two older girls...see the tailfeathers....

And here is one laying down, they sure do go through a ungangly stage, lol

They look to be 4-5 weeks old. I would maybe move the light a little closer to see if that quiets them up. And you are using a chick waterer, you don't need rock/marbles in those, and don't need them after the first week. The only time I use marbles is in the gallon or bigger waterer and only for the Silkies(seem to fall asleep more). I put a small funnel glued to the top of my chick waterer to keep them off of them.
Gee Whiz Trav, you're just FULL of good ideas -- in this case the funnel. My chicks sit on top of the feeder and you know what happens then!

I like your set-up for the RIR chicks. If the top of the kennel is wire, try to make a nipple waterer for them.
I think we should introduce Dash sooner than later so they can finish growing up together and he won't be the lonely boy. I think I can bring him down there this week, I'll just have to see what's on the schedule.

I came home from an Easter egg hunt this morning to find a bald eagle circling *very* low over my back yard. Eek. The chickens noticed it right away, froze, and then a few of them hid. The two white ones in particular seemed to know that they should hide.

What a wonderful day.

Mine started by taking my son's last items out of my storage to his apartment.

I then went home and took Fluffy and Niqui outside for an introduction to grass. I have a pen I setup, moved them downstairs in their crate, and then moved them into the pen. They didn't try to fly out as they were going "what the f*#& is this stuff under our feet" and just stood there amazed. Then a few minutes later I saw Niqui starting to peck at the long grass. They stayed close to the side of the pen where I was, so I know they have bonded.

At my storage I found my packing newsprint without printing and brought that home for use in their crate. I decided, since I was tearing the paper outside, to add some grass and dandelion greens in with the paper for them to scratch for once they were back in the bathroom. I will see tonight if they found it. I also took some chick feed and added water. Fluffy kept eating it after eating the pinch of scratch I dropped on top of it. Niqui hadn't figured out it was food when I had to leave for work.

The hubby is so funny. He asked me after the 2nd night of them being in the bathroom, how long they would be in the house. I told him "until the pen is finished" and he said "guess we better get working on it then." What a doh moment. So, the plan is to get some work done on it tomorrow. I think I will bring the chicks out and setup the portable pen near their new pen while I work on digging the 6" down for wirie at the bottom. Should be a great day for all of us.

Hey all,

I am new to the forum and have only lived in Seattle a bit over a year. Our coop is nearly finished (if they are ever finished) and we hope to get our first chickens this week. Any tips from you north westerners that have been at this a while?

Thanks for making a great site!
