Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My friend Ducklingsweety has a cochin that looks just like that! Her name is duckling And we used her to try to hatch some but only 1 out of 7 hatched and it died immediately!

So I've been out of touch for a little over a week so I'm playing catch up. I started going post by post and now I'm skipping through the woods. Welcome to all the new peeps and hopefully I don't miss anything cool!
VF you are Very Talented. I did see the other pics of your place a ways back and I was very impressed with all the cool things you got going on over the hill! Hopefully I get a chance to meet you at the next get together.

I have one more Wheaten Ameraucana cockerel that has to be re-homed (or something). He was hatched Feb. 25 and came from Cowgirlgrace. If you are interested please let me know. He is very friendly, too.
I have two and I still owe you some pics!!
It's been crazy here DD Kayla's soccer DD Madi and the Griffin Middle School Band headed to Disneyland for four days to play. Lots of meetings and concerts leading up to the big trip. She is on day three and having a blast. DD-K and I took Tucker and went on a hike then to the shelter to find a kitten (no luck) then to soccer practice.

Sorry about the no kitteh.

Thank you for the tips! We have a nipple system set up. We have gutters collecting water in a rain barrel on the coop that leads to a nipple system. We also have a feeder that I am excited about. I will post pictures as soon as it is up and running.
We have narrowed our list of potential birds down to Ameraucana, Plymouth Rock, Rhode Island, Sussex, Red and Black Sex Links, and Australorp. This is based on information showing the birds as docile, not too flighty, good egg layers, and things like that. I don't think that we are concerned with the number of eggs being laid as much as the fun of having chickens. I look forward to using this site! Thanks again.
Don't forget Orpingtons if you want a docile bird. Big and Goofy, Great layers. They come in lots of colors even Lavender. Easy to find either at feed stores (mostly the Buffs} or there are a ton of breeders that have the other colors. All your choices are excellent birds though and you can't go wrong with any of them. HAVE FUN

OT........food
Me and Sis went to the Olive Garden yesterday and I had one of the specials. Roasted chicken with fettucini and a creamy garlic sauce that had yellow and orange bell peppers and spinach in the sauce.
Do any of you have a good recipe for a creamy garlic sauce?

(it was very, very good)
like an alfredo sauce? It's fairly easy to make~ I think this is the recipe I use: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Quick-Alfredo-Sauce/Detail.aspx

Add as much or as little garlic as you like :) The spinach can just be thrown in raw and I personally would quick saute or grill, or something, the bell peppers because I don't like them raw.

eta: don't use kraft parmesean cheese, please. it doesn't melt. I don't care what they say about it being real parmesean, it doesn't behave like it. Use a higher quality shredded parm.

Quote: Thank you Slinglings, good to get a recomendation for a recipe. I use this site extensively for ideas and recipes and change up the recipes to suit me.
I agree with you about the Kraft parm cheese. I really like Sargento's (I have very little choices) when I can get a block or wedge of it.

I can't begin to catch up to everyone's posts or quote and comment everywhere, but Happy Easter to everyone! (I'll see if my 15 yr old wants to color eggs with natural dyes tomorrow, and if so, post pics.)

The girls are all happy in their new chicken house now- and so thought I'd post a few pics:
Buffy, approving the new flooring- worked an awesome deal with Home Depot:

first night in the new Hen Hotel:

of course there's always got to be ONE non-conformist in the crowd:

My son had a blast today- he had a buddy over all day- they explored the woods, climbed trees, jumped on the tranpoline, played ball with our lab. We roasted hot dogs, had a bon fire, tilled the garden (now that the chicken pens are no longer in it) , and picked up a load of pre-cut seasoned firewood dirt cheap. Busy day here- and wow, I loved being warm in shorts and sandals again! I am way tired, but wow, what a great day!
Sounds like you guys had a great time! The Coup turned out very cool!!!!!!!!
WHAT A FANTASTIC WEEKEND EVERYBODY!!!! Boy! Doesn't that sun feel so good!!!

I had so many people to quote! I didn't want to leave a page long reply! Hi to the new folks! Glad to ear you're ok T Hi!! Take care of your self and don't get too bored.

I apologize in advance for all the pics but I just have to share!!! My sweet baby cousin was lost in the foster system and not only did we get her back! She gets to stay with us for awhile!!! SUCH A GREAT WEEKEND!

My daughter got a cute new dress, so she played in it out side while we did yardwork on Sat. We have been building a pallet patio and are finally almost done with it. I added that not so great pic with the green to show what color the benches turned out. Then by the time we got everything put back together, it was dark...

My cousin, DD and I went to Ruston on Sunday, and OH MAN! Was it just too beautiful. I shouldn't be so blessed!

Enjoying the sunshine with his 'babies'
Love this pic!!!!!!!!
When you have no idea where they are going, all roads lead you there.

I really hate the fact that I am currently stuck "working for the man". Pay is great, but when I come home, I am unfulfilled. If I were a braver man, I'd put together a plan that would get me on the road that heads to where I need to be.

I hate hows society frowns on non-conformers.
Our country was built by Non-Conformers
My eggs are on day 24 now. I candled them and they are all still moving. Days 1-17 temp was 99-100 degrees and humidity was about 35%. Days 18-current(24) temp is still 99-100 degrees and humidity 75%. None of them have internally pipped from what I could tell and none of them have hatched. Do you guys think they will still hatch since they are still moving? What do you think went wrong? or what do i need to change?
Ahhhhh, it's so hard to be patient! lol

I also posted this in the April hatch along thread.
Leave them in!!!!!!!! I had some hatch on day 28 due to my Thermometer saying 99-100 but being 4 degrees colder
