Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

OK question... Second chick has hatched... but its still attached to the shell by the umbilical? He is dragging it around the bator... no blood or anything. Should I worry?

BIG weekend coming up. I overdid it! Over 100 chicks hatching tomorrow. I actually have the hatching tray full and had to leave a dozen eggs in a tray that are due to hatch tomorrow night! Am hoping I can pull a dozen hatchlings out to make room before the ones in the tray hatch or they drop to the front and I can pull them out.

For anyone interested, in addition to my four breeds I've got Barred Rocks, Buff Brahmas, New Hampshires, SLW's, and Spangled Russian Orloffs from other breeders around the country. Oh, and I have some very special Buff Orpingtons that should be here tomorrow. I hope to be getting some Blue Orps soon. Still looking for some nice BJGs, GLWs and Black Langshans. Should have some interesting Easter Eggers this year too. Got three Ameraucanas in the coop with all my other birds so I have no idea who the Daddy will be and I'm pretty anxious to see what my Rosecomb Barnies turn out like this year. All I need is for the RC to be there. Everything else is where it should be.

God Bless,
Sounds very busy! Let me know if you figure out a good source for the Langshans, I'm looking for them as well.

Day 21 and our chicks are hatching!!! So far out of 27 we see 4 that have little holes in the shells and hear a lot of peeping... My kids are running around the house yelling the chicks are coming the chicks are coming

Sweet ! We'll def have to get together..... Im dying to try your cookies :) I have no idea how yellow chicks showed up, chicken genetics are still beyond me ;-)
Slept in this morning, and was called on phone by neighbor- I heard answering machine- "hey, your rooster is out on the road!", appears someone either left our drive-thru gate open or else we had a visitor. DH goes out to get rooster back in, and good thing he did- because 2 of the little yellow chicks had fallen out of the elevated doghouse tat is a temporary brooder, and since it's 2 foot off the ground with no ramp, they were standing below, peeping like crazy- with no idea how to get back in. DH put them back in and they ran over to get under their mama to warm up. No idea how long they had been outside- could have been hours? So, guess we need to move the hen and chicks to the big hen house today and block off a spot for the chicks to be sure they don't get bothered by the other larger hens?

if that was me, I'd leave it alone, but it seems like low humidity is what causes them to stick to their shells?
Is the humidity high enough I wonder?

It broke off it was one little string thing that was holding it to the shell... Humidity is at 72% right now...

well then, all is good- looks like it was just a fluke!

BTW- those silkies you practically twisted my arm to get are still living in my house. All your fault!!

oops, one more thing, maybe two

Paul - you are too funny 'close the gate"
