Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Before I get more distracted by bantams, I have a technical question: how would y'all go about cutting an eight-foot piece of two-inch PVC pipe into two symetrical, flat, length-wise halves? I want to put skids on the kennel we put together yesterday, and my first impulse is "have somebody else do it, but that ould be WRONG and also would still need direction as to clamping it so it doesn't go all spiral on me (I've done this wrong before, you see). If you could find plain old symetrical U shaped plastic gutter anymore, I'd use that (although it's really too wide), but I haven't seen anything except the asymetrical stuff lately

Dragged the Shopvac up to the Wyandotte coop, and will go string the extension cord in another half-glass of water (there was a bunch of other stuff in the past four hours, including checking cows and checking feeders and putting the sheep and the Bd'A in their daytime positions and getting a 3X50 foot roll of 1" mesh chicken wire where I need it.).

So anyway: any brilliant ideas about cutting that pipe? I'll probably be using one of those quick-cut handsaws and I have four clamps I can use although there's an open question as to what I'll clamp it to.

I can do it on a table saw if you are any where near snohomish

Thanks, but I'm nowhere near- clear down in Lacey.

Which is usually a good thing: if I lived near Snohomish Id spend all my money at Antique Rose Farm.

My oldest son has had some facial tics and used to make a weird noise in his throat kind of like he was clearing his ears or something. He now does the moving the mouth to one side like your son. Took him to the Dr. and they said if it gets worse come back. I have to say, it took a few years but they got much better and he only has the one now. It gets worse when he is tired and stressed. He made it through Jr high ok, but High School is much better. Nobody has ever said anything about his tics. I have tried to let him know when he is doing it a lot. Because it's distracting for the person he is talking to. He has done a great job of trying to be aware of it now. But I had to be careful not to make him self conscious about it. A fine line to walk. I think when I let him know that it's not a big deal, just a little distracting for the other person, he didn't take it personally. But he may be a bit young yet for that. Keep doing what you are doing and try to keep him as calm and rested as possible. I know, easier said than done. I will say that I worried about things that my son never did during Jr. high and high school. I made them a bigger issue than anyone else. Just be careful you are not making a big deal out of something that isn't to your son. It was very hard for me to stay out of things once he went to Jr High. Kids begin to not want mommy fighting their battles. It makes things worse for them. Again, another fine line. So hard to raise kids! You are doing a great job! I believe as long as he has a wonderful home environment with loving parents(which he has) to come home to every day he will be just fine. He will find a niche. I am just letting you know what my experience was. And kids are mean! I hated Jr High! And that had some impact on how I reacted to things that happened to him.
Has anybody looked up Pandas?

I'm not supposed to use saws of power; I tend to have the link between my brain and my eyes shut down at inconvenient moments. And the nearest table saw is owned by the same person who is not currently answering phone calls about helping move the upper watering trough before his fence falls down.

Andrew said "take it to the shop at school" but somehow I can't see taking the 62-A bus with an eight foot piece of 2" PVC pipe.

Happy Birthday! I think I've figured out this thread. I'm new here and I'm exploring, I love my chickens... I haven't had any in many years and this week end my granddaughter DH and kido's are bringing me four pullits, a small coop for the back yard and feed. I'm jumping up and down (inside).
Welcome back to chickens and

I was wondering why my ducks were eating 50 lbs of feed a month.
hu.gif

That seems like a lot of food for the eggs.

Then I saw it!
ep.gif

Ratzilla!

I've been feeding it high protein, vitamin fortified super food all this time.

This rat was the size of a FOOTBALL!

A pineapple on wheels!

I now feed just one cup of grains and a bunch of greens to my 2 ducks instead of the buffet 5 lb scoop of Layena.
I then remove the feeder late afternoon. Its usually empty by then.
I am not feeding no zilla.

I'm going to have to make 10 pipe traps to place all over the place now that I know they are hungry. Slap some bacon fat on the pipes too.

I'm designing a rat proof feeder.

Something raised above the ground and very slippery on the sides.

Maybe a stainless steel bowl, set on a skinny wire, raised 18" off the ground...

or a globe with 2 holes and hung from a zip line 10 feet off the ground.

Maybe he won't go down to the man cave and see the gym over run with little peepers.

Was he very ill when these tics started?

there's a medical condition that used to be rare, and is no longer rare.

I have become extremely fluent in this disorder (and in fact have been invited to speak on the topic at this big 'ol conference).

Anyway, PANDAS, (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcal infection), now simply known as PANS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatic Syndrome) is triggered when a infection or virus meets a host (you or your kid) that has been immunocompromised.

The problem is that as parents, folks dont'often you don't recognize you/your kid as immune damaged/compromised- and 99.99999% of the time the pediatrician or physician has never tested immunoglobulin levels, so would not know. In PANDAS/PANS, the bacteria/infection mistakenly begins to attack parts of the brain instead of the infection.

So, normally when you get sick, your immune system rushes in and fights off the infection. In this case, fter the infection or virus is over, the antibodies don't stop- they instead find brain cells to target.

So, for instance, you get well from a strep infection and 4 to 8 weeks later, you begin having symptoms like this list- often VERY severe- some have only part of this list, some have ALL:

Tics
OCD
Neurological symptoms,

balance problems,

handwriting deterioration and/or, fumbly fingers, (dropping dishes? can;'t button something? can't hold a pencil very well, formerly artistic, can't draw well anymore)

hearing issues (distortion in sound, or can't filter out background noises, think you are going deaf, etc),

sleep issues/disturbances - i.e no longer dreaming, don't sleep well, feel like you never get enough sleep, never get deep sleep

mood lability- you get grouchy or yell for no reason, bad mood for no reason, crying spells for no reason

unrinary frequency- suddenly feeling like you have to pee VERY often, or feel like you are going to be incontinent, or in younger kids- often wetting the bed

severe anxiety- now afraid to go in stores, talk to people, scared of things they used to do, never were frightened of before

Germ fears- now afriad of bugs or germs or hair in food, afraid of dirty hands, etc

anorexia - suddenly doesn;t eat like they used to, sometimes full blown severe anorexia, sometimes mild anorexia

ADHD, distractibile, impulsive, hyper- i.e. child who never was like this before, or only a very mild before becomes much, much more severe. In adults- suddenly very disorganized

Separation anxiety- afraid to sleep alone, afraid to be alone, wants parent with them at all times

Sensory issues- for instance- sudddenly unable to tolerate the sound of a appliance, or the lights at a store, or a certain fabric, or certain smells

The treatments for this are antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, anti-virals, and in many cases IVIG (intravenous Immunoglobulin). The treatments for this are not "counseling", "better parenting", or SSRI's/psych meds, which is what most Seattle area docs will try to convince you of. Even if you show previous school report cards of straight A's and video tapes of a formerly completely functional child, yu will be convinced that you are merely a delusional parent- you just wanted to believe your child was always fine. Even when holding out copies of research on this disorder that shows your child mets every single bit of criteria, doctors will turn their backs on you.

Here's the top 2 websites to look at- and see if this sounds like your child. Watch the PSAs on this site also:

and if you want to know more resources, or talk to me about this disorder, send me a PM.
