I recently joined this site and I am in Washington so I figured I should post here. I am looking for Australian Spotted duck breeders in order to find unrelated ducks. My hens are all related to each other but my drakes are not related to my hens or to each other so I am hoping to diversify my genetic pool by trading ducklings with other duck breeders.

Welcome. You may also want to check at the PNPA show in Vancouver April 20. Also the following Saturday there is a "poultry swap" at Canby OR.

Either of these events would also be a good opportunity to meet some of the peeps from this site. I will be at both events with my metal art. Please stop by and say

It turned out great!! I love that you centered the chicken, that really bothered me on the sample bag in the link. It makes it much prettier this way. Did you sew the triangles down? The reason I asked, is I was wondering how difficult it was to maneuver the bag to accomplish it.

Finally got the "big girls" (7 weeks old) out in the new 3-level coop. DH has thermostat set at 55 on the heater so they don't get cold, LOL; he is so funny.
I told him they have feathers now and will be ok, but no we had to have a heater too. Actually am hoping they figure out that the 3rd level is very warm and
will go there to roost at night. I may have to crawl up there and show them.
Next he is adding remote camera so we can keep an eye on them.

Your coop looks great!! I also like the little Polish in the food dish.

Hi Neighbors. I am considering getting a dog. Anyone with any suggestions as to breeds that do well with chickens (I have just 4 girls), ones that do well outdoors in our area? (I am in Tacoma/Federal Way area near Dash Point State Park). I am hoping the dog will help protect the chickens, but I have read a lot of stories about dogs killing hens and I want to make sure I do things right. I would appreciate any advice at this point (I am just beginning my research). Thanks so much in advance for any insights.

In MY opinion there are many breeds that can do ok with chickens or other "farm" animals. The MOST important thing is that they get educated young. There are a few breeds that I really don't think would be good based primarily on what the dogs are bred for. Myself I have always had Aussies with no problems. There are probably peeps who will tell of other breeds that they think are great. I feel the most important is GET A SMART BREED. And then train the dog. I am a firm believer of and tell people "If you talk to them like a person and treat them like a person they will respond accordingly. If ya talk to them and treat them like a dumb dog that is all you will ever have is a dumb dog"!!
