Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

. . . no chickens. No chicks or babies.  My Barnevelder went to his new hoe today. Luckily, I will able able to get some chicks later this sommer.

Did I miss something?? Where did the chickens go?

Yeah, you must have missed it. Himself overstocked the place and the pasture went to mud (spackle cackle big time). So we found homes for ALL the poultry and have reseeded the pasture. Hopefully it comes back and we can start again (smaller). One good friend took a couple chickens so we can get babies from them later.

One thing you might want to think about is cross fencing and intensive pasture management: being able to move animals off an area so that the pasture plants can grow back for a period of a few days to a week increases carrying capacity.

(Up early: somebody came by around 5:30 driving a car that needed brake work so badly that it sounded like my alarm going off. After an hour and a half of not going back to sleep, I gave up.)

I do this with electric poultry netting. It works well for me.

Kate - what did you seed your pasture with? I saw some seed on amazon (I think) that was "chicken pasture" seed.

So, DH and I drove up to Kent last night to get some free hardwood flooring. We got there and it filled our 8' bed to the brim. I have enough to do the kids' bedrooms, my sewing room and possibly our bedroom. I am SO excited!! It is a need that had been pushed pretty low on the list of priorities, due to more important things that need to be done (barn roof, shop roof, fences, etc.). I was so thankful for the answer to an unspoken prayer.

But, boy is that stuff heavy.

Ugh!! We get crackheads on quads in the woods across the street at all hours of the night. The weather is getting warmer, so I am sure that we are not too far away from it starting up for the summer. I am so freakin' excited.

Working on my second cup of coffee. Still wishing I was asleep- and now my alarm has really gone off I could probably do it, and then feel like thirteen barrels of fermented owl feces after I woke up again and for the rest of the day.

UGH, and on a Monday when I need to be awake enough to make phone calls, too, ugh, ugh, ugh...

Help! Help!
I have a problem that I hope someone on here might be able to help me with! To make a long story short, I have a hen who was attack by one of my other hens last Wednesday and on Thursday she hatched ONE egg. She has some leg injury and can't walk or stand up. When she tries to falls over and often falls on her baby. She is trying very hard to take care of this little one, but is struggling. I really feel I should cull the mother hen, so I am looking for someone who is willing to adopt the baby or someone who could raise her with their own chicks and I will be willing to buy her back when she is feathered out. She was born around noon last Thursday and is healthy and active. The dad is a BL/RW and the mom is either a Buckeye or a Black Java. I'm pretty sure its the Java. Anyone interested please PM me!
Just bring her into the house...they make diapers.

Hi everyone,

I am starting my list of what to bring to the PNPA show this Friday. If you are looking for something in particular send me a pm. I should have some chicks and will be collecting this weeks eggs to bring with me.

I have one buff pullet available. I will also have vaccines and boxes.

And I am bringing more of the fashion scarves I crocheted. There are pictures further back on this thread or you can see them in my pictures.

Good Morning All!
It's kind of an "odd" feeling this morning. The house is so *quiet*. No chicks peeping and no grandchildren giggling and running around! I almost miss them.

While I was out taking care of my birds this morning I wanted to take a couple pictures. When I turned to look at the littles I saw Jelly Bean (RSL), who is only 7 weeks old up, on top of the saw horse! That makes her head as tall as the fence!

I was going to use the saw horse to hang the nipple waterer. Well, I'd better find plan B real quick. Those little stinkers!! Since I had the camera in hand I was able to get a quick snapshot.....
