Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

wow that is a beautiful egg - you should blow it and keep it!!!!! I would sure love a chicken that laid those!
Pitty you can't get them fertilised and ship me 6!!!!

Oes
I am not putting down Sudsy's egg. But dark eggs like that aren't rare. Nor does it have anything to do with first egg.

Sudsy That is a very nice looking mess of eggs.

I think it's that dark because it was coated twice? or because it was her first egg in a while? She's 18 months old, her eggs are usually the blue color in the back.

For our girls, they are very rare (as in this is the first and probably only one

). The blue egg in back of her sister's is the usual shade of blue that she lays.

Check out the super dark blue egg that Blackberry laid! (Blueberry laid the light blue one in the back - they're sisters.) I've never seen one so dark! Pretty sure this is the first egg she's laid in a while...

And here is my 'goodbye' picture of Heidi, I took her to Hallerlake's on Suday night. I hope she's doing well!

I asked my husband if it was quieter yesteday, he said 'he didn't notice anything'. Yep, that means it was quieter! (And the neighbor was not over to tell us that our chickens were in her yard again!)
She will be happier when she is out of the dog crate, but she's eating. She laid an egg yesterday, which she ate. I'm assuming she broke it by accident. Hope she doen't turn into an egg eater. She is a grumbler! Reminds me of Carmen, a BCM I used to have.

Squab -- that word just does not sound appetizing. Plus, how many would Himself eat in a setting?

RainWolf has kept quail - I built her a quail thingie - I have pictures if you want them. It's not at all like a chicken coop. I think she kept Cortunix (sp?) and/or A&Ms (or some other breed named for a Texas University)
Doves are very tasty, but also so lovely & make such a soothing sound I could not butcher them.

My Mothers tells me that during the depression, that their family of 10 children and rents. Kept pigeons for any extra meat that they could get. It was her job to climb up the 10 foot ladder and check for squabs, they had to be pulled before they had feathers, while they were still on crop milk. Her mother would bake them in large pans with stuffing like chickens or turkeys.
I just don't think that I could eat a baby. Plus you need to check how healthy it is to have chickens and pigeons close together.
My nanny would hunt for baby rats and drop them into a new bottle of Remy Martin.
They look like little peanuts in the bottle.
She would use that stuff for RA and for sprains.
