Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Here is the response from sending a message to the city of yelm site about raising back yard chickens. It's also very upsetting that a few complaints can change the laws so much. I suggest complaining about not being able to raise chickens.
The e-mail sent back to me was from animal control.
"The City has received complaints about citizens raising chickens for food. Our response has been that as an urban area only pet animals are allowed. See 6.08.010 of the YMC and 6.08.30 definitions for pet animal defined. Thanks

Gary"
So, they become your pets that just happen to provide your family with eggs in the process.

That's exactly what I was thinking a couple of days ago! In the city of Bremerton when they decided it was okay to have chickens, they made it a law that the birds had to be licensed exactly like dogs and cats. I know they have modified the number of birds allowed, but I don't know about the licensing. The important point is that they are licensed .... like pets.

Pet fish have babies, pet bunnies have babies, pet dogs and cats have babbies, pet canaries lay eggs.... pet chickens lay eggs. What's the difference?

OK, another one of my chicks. Just taken. These silkies are changing so fast. They are shedding that powdery dander right now from their feathers. It looks like someone had a fight with the a bag of flour in my house. dust! Need that outside coop soon. This one looks like it has a visor on.

OK, now i'm curious. How do you determine the sex of a chick? I know that several people on here purchased chicks thinking they were pullets, but ended up they weren't. What is the process?
If I may VF has black sex link chicks... one of few chickens that you can tell by their color if its male or female... In the case of the black sex links the females will be all black while the males will have a yellow dot on the top of their heads. MOST breeds of chicks ( even tho sex- links are not a true breed rather a cross of two different pure breeds) can not be determined 100% until they grow out... Hatcheries vent them but its not 100%

Velvettfog has sexlink chicks black and red ones. with sexlink chicks the females are always one color and the males are always one color 100% of the time. I just don't remember what color. velvettfog can tell you. Black sexlink chicks ALWAYS have a white dot on their head. with other breeds you can only tell by looking at their vent (butt) and that is tough even the professionals get fooled once in awhile. you can look up sexlinks and find out what color they are

I'm back sounding like the broken record again. My hen is apparently getting worse. I've posted a very detailed message in the topic for illnesses. If you are interested and think you might be able to help, please take a look HERE.

Today is the third time it's happened. She hadn't layed an egg since it happened last week until the shell-less one today. Still no bloody poop. But today after leaving the nest box with a big wet spot I assumed was a shell-less egg, she went outside and deposited a big puddle of green slime with white parts. And it smelled like sulfur, not really strong, but it was there. Weird.

I really want to treat her correctly. Is this cocci??? Something else?? I really need your help.!!
