Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

So, as I said, today was an excellent day, over all. For instance, I have eleven hens and pullets, and this is eleven eggs:

(G=Ginjur, the non blue egg laying EE, T is the younger Hamburgs, R is the older Hamburgs, A is the Australorp, and W is the BLRWs. And of course the teeny one is from the Barbu d'Anvers.)

Also, this young lady's next elder sibling was born on June 6, 2012:

So good, eh?

Congrats!

All tonight while I was washing birds, cleaning the pens, and dusting, I did not find one mite, dead or alive. It looks like I will be able to show this weekend! :) I did dust everything heavily and put on a tiny bit of Frontline on the two birds. Tomorrow night I will check again to be sure before I take him to the show Saturday morning. Also, my birds smell like a tropical paradise now, lol! Here are some pictures of bath time:

Afterwards, all dry and in their freshly cleaned, dusted, and sprayed pen.

Wow, gossipin' ganders, I tried, but I don't think I'm going to catch up today

BikerChicky - I bet you could order some inexpensive replacement pads form the company who made the trampoline. I do it all the time with baby swings and other stuff that is in good shape but just needs a new cushion or something. I was going to suggest using some sort of netting on the underside of the springs and jumpy-bouncy part. I'm not sure how functional it would be for jumpy-bouncing, but perhaps you can attach it to the frame so that it's easy to remove for jumpy-bounces? (I got on one of those not to long ago and almost peed my pants!!! Not fun, and I decided no more jumpy-bouncy

So...CISPA passed......ggggggggrrrrrrrreeeeeeeaaaaaaatttttt.....

I'm going to go out on a limb and break social etiquette and tell everyone about Ron Paul's new Institute for Peace and Prosperity (YAY!) He is an amazing man and has done so much to keep the Constitution upheld. He even has a home-schooling curriculum! I can't wait to learn more about it, I just love that guy!
I'm not ever sure I could find the manufacturer. I guess I"m STUCK watching my girls play in the trampotractor because it isn't totally predator proof.

What a sacrifice....but someone has to do it.

Well I got the coop cleaned out today. Wowza, that's a lot of work for me! I shoveled all the litter into one of those giant IKEA blue bags and toted about 12 loads to the garden. Swept it out top to bottom with a broom, made a solution of Sevin and water and sprayed it everywhere, especially in cracks and on the roosts. Then I sprinkled down a layer of DE, Sevin dust, and Sweet PDZ on the floor. Went to Reber to buy white wood shavings and they were out!

I had to drive all the way to Coastal for the silly shavings but at least I got to see their selection of chicks. Um...don't buy there. They aren't well taken care of and this is the second time in 2 weeks I've had to tell a store employee that more than a dozen chicks (that I saw) were pasty, waterers were completely empty or filled with shavings so that the water was inaccessible, and there was one bin of Leghorns who were about 2 weeks old and all of them were sprayed down with Blu-Kote and looked like they'd been picked to death due to overcrowding. I'm sorely disappointed with the care of those chicks and would never support them.

Got home and found all my chickens in the garden. All of the loads of shavings and poop I took to the garden had already been spread around nicely by my flock! Good girls, hard workers I tell ya!

I put the whole bale of shavings in the coop and it looks and smells so fresh! I had also left the door open all day to get more air in there and boy howdy those girls were so glad to go in to bed!

Today I also raked about 1/3 of my chicken yard. I found out that dried poop is easily removed with a leaf rake! There's one way I can keep their area cleaner without having to "scoop" poop! I FILLED my entire green waste bin with dead ripped up moss (removed by my chickens over the last month or so), dead grass, and some shavings that have been tracked out of the run or scratched out and were completely covering the walkway. It looks so clean over there!

OK, enough about the work I did. My back hurts from all the raking and I'm sitting here with a heating pad catching up. Off to bed soon, I think.

She is a beautiful girl. Congrats. I cant wait till I can get a cow.

Quote: Not an expansion, I'm thinking a new coop just for my JG with a run and a large forage compound, or just alt days of free range.
That would leave my present coop for the E Orps and their RIR buddies, which works really good for me.
Note; my broody Orp is sitting on 4 - 5 eggs so I guess I'm just going to let her go and see what she can do.

All in all, sounds like it was a very good day

What colors of Orps do you have?
