Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi everyone,
I know I mentioned the other day that my birds picked up mites. Tonight I got then Frontline, and I gave them baths in flea shampoo and dusted them again. I have never had to deal with mites before though, so I have no clue where I should put the Frontline on them. By the vent or hackles? The Oregon thread is too slow and I need a quick response.
Thank you!

Good evening Washingtonians!

Were ya using same name then?? Hey Saturday Clark Co. fairgrounds poultry show. There will be many of us there. If ya find the Iron Imagery (metal art) booth he should be able to point out a bunch of BYC peeps.
Also NEXT Saturday is a BIG poultry related swap in Canby OR. Come on down.

I'd use it at the base of the neck, preferrably high enough that the bird can't reach it. Consult with an avian vet on when it should be safe to eat eggs again, that frontline stuff is very toxic.

Base of the neck

Thank you. I'm only planning on using a little drop, hopefully it's enough. And I will be sure to toss any eggs the hen lays.

I have been talking myself out of having chickens for awhile but that is no longer possible now that I joined this site! I picked up 5 "Araucana" (hatchery name for them, aka Easter Egger) chicks last week and yesterday I picked up 6 "Ameraucana" (hatchery name, aka Easter Egger) chicks because they seem to resemble the "Aracauna" chickens I raised in the past. Based on the "experts" here I should have all Easter Egger chickens so I can get all colors of eggs and a flock of interesting birds to look at as well. I will be disappointed if these chicks actually meet show standards for these breeds but hopefully they are what I have raised and enjoyed in the past. I am curious to see the difference between the "Araucana" Easter Egger chickens and the "Ameraucana" Easter Eggers but as long as I have hatchery birds that lay all the colors of eggs and not just one color I will be happy with my selection.

Hopefully my neighbors will not find reason to complain if I happen to have a rooster with my pullets because I want to be able to hatch eggs too. I may have to cut back from the 11 chickens I have now since I already have 13 ducks (soon to be 10 when the trio is picked up on Saturday). The first five chicks already have names (Symphony, Melody, Cello, Viola, and Treble) but my daughter needs to name the new chicks. I only wanted three more chicks but Del's insisted I needed to get six. We will probably need to select our favorites when they start laying and then sell the extras.

I have a total of four Little Giant still air incubators (I don't believe in keeping all my eggs in one incubator, LOL) so once my Australian Spotted ducks get broody and start hatching their own eggs I will need something else to hatch. My first batch of ducklings is due the 22nd so I am getting excited for them to arrive. I will probably need a fan kit to hatch chickens, though. I am not using a fan for the ducks because I need to keep the humidity higher for them than for chickens. I have been candling eggs and they seem to be doing well so hopefully I get a good hatch rate.
I would hazard a guess that you play music? Just a wild guess on my part!
You still need chicks for Choral, Unison, Duet, Etude, Tremlo, Quaver, Harmony, Waltz, Foxtrot and Jitterbug

Today I met up with Chickielady and Einstein which is always a pleasure.
She brought me my new babies. They are really, really cute. Safely ensconced in their brooder with a heat lamp, food and water. Little piglets. They gorged themselves.
I went out about an hour ago for some entertainment but nooooooooooooo, they wer all spread out laying there motionless. I would have thought the worse except for their snoring. LOL

Quite a busy day for the little ones. Removed from their hatch enviroment, put in a box and then transported to another place, jostled, handled, put back in the box and then into a different veh for a long trip home and then into a strange, large space. Once they found food and water at their new home they were happy little gluttons.

I'll post some pics soon, as there is little change from the ones posted by CL.
13 little, soft, bundle of fuzz. Oh yeah, gonna be fun.

So, as I said, today was an excellent day, over all. For instance, I have eleven hens and pullets, and this is eleven eggs:

1000

(G=Ginjur, the non blue egg laying EE, T is the younger Hamburgs, R is the older Hamburgs, A is the Australorp, and W is the BLRWs. And of course the teeny one is from the Barbu d'Anvers.)

Also, this young lady's next elder sibling was born on June 6, 2012:

1000

So good, eh?
