Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I am sorry you if you felt that I was "reprimanding" you. I didn't intend it that way. What I was trying to do was inform you in case you didn't know. See often those who don't know are the ones who get taken.
As for your birds. It really doesn't matter what kind of birds one has or where they came from. What matters is that the person is happy with them. And FOR THE RECORD yes I have hatchery mutts. I have hatchery EEs that are laying AWESOME BLUE eggs.

Well, if I had checked my spelling I would have found the information online and I could have suggested Easter Egger chickens for all the reasons I listed. Seeing the show Araucana was a shock to me because that is definitely not what I raised. Most likely the chickens I bought labeled Araucana were more accurately what are now labeled Ameraucana but I am happy knowing they are Easter Egger chickens. I knew the Easter Egger was a mixed breed chicken but I did not know that is the only one that lays blue, green, and pink eggs. I like getting all three colors in one breed, even if it is a mutt breed.

When I talked to someone at Coastal today she insisted that their Araucanas were true Araucanas from Idaho but they have tails so I am still hopeful they are Easter Eggers. I will just have to wait until they are laying to know if I will have an assortment of egg colors. I used to get more green eggs than blue or pink so that made the blue and pink ones seem more rare than the green. My ducks lay green eggs but I read they can also have other colors.

When I brought up the reprimands I said I can understand being corrected for outdated knowledge or information now thought to be untrue (such as the eggs being more nutritious with less cholesterol) but I was a little put off by being told not to do something I had said I don't do but others do. I am aware that there are many books that promote ingesting Comfrey but I am also aware of the damage it can do. That is good information to share as long as it is not directed at me specifically. The teacher in me believes in educating others so I welcome the sharing of information when it is done respectfully.

When people read these forums they skim, quite often not reading every word. Sometimes it is wise to put a big warning up for those who do skim not attempt it without more research. If you just put all good then it is deceptive and someone can get hurt. This whole thing is ridiculous. End of subject.

Man you guys are animals. I can never keep up with this thread. .. Oh and Stumpfarmer, I would love to kiss that cows face!!
Yeah things are a bit slow right now!! Lots of peeps busy with other things.

I would hazard a guess that you play music?  Just a wild guess on my part!
You still need chicks for Choral, Unison, Duet, Etude, Tremlo, Quaver, Harmony, Waltz, Foxtrot and Jitterbug  :frow

My daughter plays the cello and guitar, and she sings. The music theme was her idea. I sing and my husband is a singer, songwriter, and producer. He plays guitar (six string and twelve string) and piano. I will pass along your suggestions to my daughter since she gets to name the chickens. She wanted music names that sound feminine since we should have 90% pullets.

I am going to have to respond above the quoted section because my phone won't let me scroll to the bottom. I did not have hurt feelings but I did get the initial impression that people were being rude. It happens on online forums because people can sometimes come across as arrogant, even though they don't realize the impression they give to others. It did not deter me from reading but it did make me feel as though I should not offer information. Many posts are written in the general "you" form but the one I quoted seemed like the personal "you" even though I did not need the warning personally.
Quote: I can understand that and have noticed how it can come across wrong. That is why I have started trying to say one rather than you if I mean it as a general term rather than a directed comment.

I agree with you Jessica. I was very disappointed when I saw the condition of the chicks at Coastal today. They looked pretty sad.

I was at Coastal today too and saw the pecked birds. We actually got 5 chicks there last week and they are doing well here. I considered getting the wood pellets to use in my brooder but decided to stick with the pine shavings. The chicks we got were supposed to be two days old last Friday but their wings are feathered already so I think they may be older.

Well it looks like my mistakenly locking down the incubator Wheaton Ameraucanas two full days early hasn't done too much damage. I've got 4 out of 6 hatched so far! Yesterday was officially hatch day and then another popped out last night. I'm worrying about my last two eggs - I haven't seen any pips on them yet. And the babies of course keep coming to the window when I talk to them. I know they want OUT. These are my gf's chicks that I volunteered to hatch for her. She's not a fan of having chicks in the house though and is having a big party for two kids making their First Communion on Sunday so she's fussing a bit about not having any place for the chicks except in the house. So I'm thinking... My third Silkie, Pearlie June, just went broody again. The other two ladies in the VF coop are already raising my 3 week olds. Pearlie June has been broody about a week. I'm wondering if I keep the chicks in the brooder in my house this week if Pearlie June would accept them after that? I'm guessing she would as she was pretty good about having the other chicks in the coop the past three weeks... :idunno Any opinions on this? That way my gf wouldn't have to worry about having these pesky chicks in her home and I'd get to play with them! ;) Here's the first 4. Waiting, waiting, waiting on 5 and 6... I sure hope they come out today. I don't like worrying about the last to hatch...
Such cute little things! I want to hold them!! Right NOW!!!!!!!!! I hope the last two make it out quickly and happily. Oh, the cutest thing with my little wheaten am. I figured out that when I catch her, which she doesn't really like, and I hold her so that her feet are on the palm of my hand, she relaxes and lets me pet her as long as I want to. Just like when she was tiny! Apparently it's really important to her to have steady footing, because if her feet are dangling she's a real wiggle worm and struggles to get loose. Then, when they finally go inside their coop at night she'll cuddle up to my hand if it's in front of her chest and let me pet her again with my other hand. I just LOVE IT! :love By the way.... has anybody actually SEEN this GF that Sadie Sue keeps referring to? Me thinks it's her imaginary little friend who happens to be an enabler so she can hatch more chicks!!! :lau
Well I did meet a very nice lady with her in Stevenson I think it was spring (yes it was) 2012. I think her name is Phyllis ? She doesn't do chocolate port but highly recommended it. Well separate the wine was good and the chocolate was good but FOR somebody who I shall not name but his initials are Chicken Rustler. The 2 together just was like having cold water thrown.
Very good memory CR! That was Phyllis! And these chicks I've just hatched are hers. And it is true that 40 years ago in high school she used to talk me into some questionable situations which is why we're still friends - because we've got too much dirt on each other to not be friends!

Glad I'm not the only one. It really reaffirmed my decision to always support my local Reber Ranch as much as possible, their chicks have always been well taken care of and I've yet to see anything wrong with a single one of them. I'm going back there in a week or so for 2 chicks for Lucy. Darn girl. I hate that she's broody again 10 weeks after I gave her the first chicks! She only laid me about 10 eggs in between!!!

I looked for chicks at Reber Ranch yesterday and they did not have what I wanted but they do have the best set-up over the other feed stores. I am done getting chicks because I will need the room for ducklings. I would like to hatch some chicks when I have the room.
