welcome to the WA state forum!

I've been very grateful to finally have room to get back to raising chickens this last year. We've also got a mixed flock of layers and are working on some separate breeding pens for projects.

I got 12 eggs from my 12 layers yesterday

, and 11 eggs the day before. Now that I found the secret nest under the fern and busted a coule hens for trying to collect a clutch in a mudhole, we're back in business!

Next- ducks for the slug-fest here. I'm thinking indian runners- and want to hatch my own or get day-old babies so they imprint.

If this rain would ever stop being so ridiculous, I could finish the pen/ coop/yard/garden projects I have going now! Literally, my garden starts had just began sprouting and were FLOATING. Next up on list- greenhouse or cold frames! When the weather man says 1" of rain fell in Seattle, I roll my eyes- because we've have 4-8 inches of rain accumulate in our rubbermaid tub sitting on the deck several times the last 2 weeks.

Sounds like we're in the same BOAT!

WOW he is AWESOME!

My daughter was taking pictures left and right; I forgot my hearing protectors and by the time I was in the middle of the exhibit floor I had to keep one hand over the ear that got hurt Thursday.

another day lost. Lots of amibition, no energy. Rats.
My broody hen keeps changing nest boxes, won' stay in a broody box I made up for her. Next step is making a "breaking broody" cage, dang I don't like doing that, but I'm tired of broken eggs and less production from the flock.

Maybe I'll just isolate her totally, put a box in the isolation area of the coop with food and water and call it good?

suggestions are welcomed, please chime in, don't be bashful.

Can you toss her in Rascals Iso. pen on the otherside of the coop?

Notice, Daddy's colora are not near as VIBRANT, as the Marans' son, and Dady has that awful white on his tail AND a light (but barred) breast..........
COOL....so now I have a full blown marans Crele project AND a Chantecler Crele project...and will have scores of eggs I gotta hatch to get just the perfect ones.....................

Crele any thing is cool BUT Your Roo is AWESOME!!! Great job

Note: tired people make bad decisions. I've averaged under six hours of sleep a night for the past week, and have been going flat out on projects for two.

I was out finishing up chores and had just put the sheep's oatmeal and apple in his feed pen and then put the eggs (nine, out of eight chickens. Malvina laid two eggs between 7pm last night and 5pm today, and one a day yesterday, Friday, and Thursday) into the oatmeal scoop to take them in the house. The sheep walked calmly up to me so I just let him loose, with a plastic scoop full of eggs in one hand and no crook to enforce my authority in the other.

I'm sure the crescent shapped horn bruises on my right shin will heal by the wedding, right? And I'm sure my right arm will be fine by Thursday, after using it to power him away from me and stay upright while I did so. I outweigh him by a LOT (Jacobs are not big sheep!) but he's got the four wheel drive thing going for him.

I wasn't thinking. He was pissy when I pegged him out, and more pissy when I moved him with his chain exactly long enough not to be able to reach any of the roses, and I had no business letting him loose when I had my left hand full of eggs and my right hand empty of the crook. STUPID. If he had wanted to break my leg instead of just express his displeasure, he could have done so.

We are on our way home from Olympia with honeysuckle hills, sudsy chick and terror bird. We saw Sadie sue's play, based upon the movie resevoir dogs. She was wonderful! We went out for a nice meal with her sister and mother as well, and I even got a nice hug and kiss from her mother . She was very sweet.


I also received the email about advertising in my posts, which I dont think I've ever done. This is the only thread that I ever post on at BYC, someone here must be complaining . Slinglings is my user name everywhere and always has been, even before my business, so it's not like I'm going to change it now.

I havent been around a whole bunch, whats the deal with advertising in your posts? your forbidden to mention you sell chickens or eggs or something?? someone explain to me please

I manufacture and sell babyslings, baby carriers, which can be used also for chickens lol, see my avatar, so I guess they think I'm trying to sell something. It's just part of my identity, who I am since 2001, my whole life right now, so it's natural for me to use that to identify myself. I swear when I joined BYC it was allowed to include links in signatures. Other forums that I belong to that don't allow links in sigs make it impossible to include a link. If you type a URL, it is plain text.


I do sell eggs, and I can understand why linking to that would be a problem, and it would be dumb to advertise here anyway (duh..we all have eggs!) . Demand always is higher than my supply so there is no need to advertise.

I don't know what is going on. Maybe it is a new peep who is misguided, perhaps a new moderator. I don't recall anyone advertising their wares on this forum and I'm on this forum daily, all day except when the weather is good, then only in the morning and then in the late afternoon and into the night.
Heck, everybody sells eggs, everybody has eggs. Most of mine go to neighbors as a gift or I barter for a service and like you I don't have enought eggs to really sell. The demand would soon outstrip any production I could manage.
As for peeps that do crafts I really don't care, I love hand made things. Stuff hand made is much more personal then production stuff.

I remember something about not linking to other chicken boards or forums etc, but just about everyone on the washington thread is crafty or has something they sell trade or barter...to peeps in washington .... now I kind of remember why I stopped coming here so much, some people just make it unfun... Slinglings is a little more than being crafty..It makes more money than my husband does lol. Simply stating that I own a company isn't exactly promoting it. We are here to get to know each other and that is part of knowing me.

Anyway, it seems as though the rules have changed, which is fine, but a polite message stating that would have been nicer than the message I received. This is the last I'm going to say about this, I promise.

I was happy to pic up my Eprinnex and cordial from CarolynF...and the breeder I got ordered my black/wheaten cross ameraucana pullets also just happened to bring 2wheaten pullets, the same age so now I have one wheaten roo and 4 wheaten pullets :-D a pretty good start to a poss breeding program, we will see....

there's 2 folks who sell nice coops pre-made that advertise on CL.

One of them is the guy we modeled ou first chicken tractor after, and he sells ones that are a great design, and delivers. He's in Renton- towards Issaquah. Nice guy, great source of info too.

HELP!!! OK I been gone most of yesterday and most of today... Came home and feed n watered the chicks n noticed two Brabanter chicks bums looked funny... It doesnt look like pasty but but im not sure what it could be... They are both eating, drink and pooping... They are suppose to go to rainmom tomorrow but I dont wanna give her sick babies.. HELP PLEASE...

I think they just need some doctoring- antiseptic spray, some antibiotic cream and a scrabled egg/grit/yogurt diet for a couple days? I'll see if I can fix them up. If you have any triple antibiotic ointment at the house, might make them more comfortable until I can get them some TLC. Q: are they on adult feed, chick feed, or medicated feed?
