Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I love our chicks but if I have change that water again today I swear I'm gonna....I'm gonna.......aw who am I kidding, I'll just change it again.
Off to go plant lots of kale in the garden. Thanks guys for the suggestions.
Tacomafarms good luck with that little chick. She sure is a cutie.

The nipple water system really works. Have you tried it. I used an plastic vinegar bottle and a small milk carton as water containers. Drill a hole in cap and push the water nipple in, make a hole on the other end so it can breath, I made mine large enough I can pore water through it. Hang it from a stick or something and wallah, no more dirty water for the chicks. I bought like 20 of them off ebay for about $15 bucks. They came from China fast. SO WORTH IT!

I'm overly excited right now! I just purchased Gold Laced Orpington eggs from the UK. I don't know if it was a good decision or not. But I want some Gold Laced Orps!!!

Wow, that must cost.

My new chicken pen is going up as I write. Silkies will be moving out soon.

I have only 5 chicks hatched, pulled them out of the bator a few minutes ago and locked down again hoping for some more?? doubt it. Low hatch rate on what I got. Only 3 of 6 eggs for the BCM and only 2 of 14 on the SLW. Have more SLW almost ready for lock down so here is hoping I at least get a breeding pair out of this.

I am so sorry that the little Dominique is not behaving better. I am just as new as you at this, so don't really have much to contribute as to solution.
I guess moving her is best for now. Good luck.
Thanks. I know that just the two of them together she seemed to pick on the white one, but now that there are 4 of them, she seemed to constantly chasing everyone. I was sad to separate them, but it seems the best thing now.

This morning the 4 in the pen were very calm. They are walking around, not running. They are a very quite group now, no more squack then run. Niqui is very quite in the bathroom too. I spent some time this morning cleaning the crate and room and she did very little talking to me and she didn't want to leave the crate. What an odd girl she is.

OK, so this morning the DH and I went to a friends to look at fencing they used for a sheep pen. She is moving out of the houe into a Senior Living community and wants us to have the fencing. So......

Now the DH is talking about using this fencing to create a pen area for the birds. We will also be getting 3-5 ducks from the same woman when she moves. Can I use this fencing for my girls? Or, do I need to also use another type of fencing since the holes in the upper area are like 4"x4" if not 6"x6". The lower area is rabbit fencing, so it's smaller and won't let them run through it.

I'm just tickled that he now wants to build a pen for them to run around in. Even after I made the tramp-o-tractor. Such a good hubby.

I can hear the hallelujah chorus as I am reading this! I had no idea there was such a thing. chicken nipple,

Oh!  And at Graham Hay Market they had some 2-5 week old pullets on a buy 10 get 2 free sale. They had silver cochins, speckled sussex, dominique, light brahma, silver laced wyandottes, lakenvelders, and a couple other breeds.  Just sayin', if you need some chicks, and you want some that would spend a shorter time in the brooder, think about a trip to Graham.

I sure don't need 12, but I was sorely tempted by the speckled sussex girls.

(They also have a buy 5 get 1 free deal on every chick in the place on Wednesdays)

Oh!!!! What time were you there?? I just went with my friend that has a lonely chicken today! They were so nice!! We also went to the Ace in, um, Spanaway? Parkland? Graham? They have some bantam babies that really need a home, they had pasty butt :(

Gosh, I guess I was there around noon. Did you get one of those older chicks? I am at capacity or I'd have come home with a couple. I LOVE the folks at Graham Hay Market! It's a great family-owned place, and the people really know their stuff. I'm glad you went there!

I decided not to let the girls out of the pen today because I was busy doing indoor stuff, but I did take them a fun treat. We recently planted a bunch of trees in our field and had to dig up a bunch of grass. I gave them the clumps of grass/roots/dirt and they loved it. There are grubs and worms hiding in there. They didn't even bother trying to follow me out when I left the pen; normally they'd try to sneak out.
