Sounds like fun! I have 5 "no mess" chicks on my hearth, with my "no-crow" rooster I bought on ebay!

I'm overly excited right now! I just purchased Gold Laced Orpington eggs from the UK. I don't know if it was a good decision or not. But I want some Gold Laced Orps!!!

how exciting!! I sent you a PM. and I am very interested in seeing how the hatch rate turned out after their flight!

I have sold the first four ducklings, at less than 24 hours old. I have two more drying and one more hatching with more eggs ready to move into the hatching incubator as soon as this last one is out of the shell. I have to clean and disinfect the hatching incubator so I can get it back up to temperature for the next batch. The dehydrator is working great to dry off the babies and keep them warm. I have a tray of water in the bottom to keep it from getting too dry and I am making sure the ducklings have water. I put in a larger lid for water (from a jar of marshmallow cream) and the ducklings go so wet I had to dry them again before they left for their new home. I want to get the babies sold as soon as possible so we don't get attached to them and they don't imprint on us. I probably got too bonded with the first duckling to hatch and I need to keep in mind that I can not keep any of the ducklings I hatch because they are from three drakes and I have no way of knowing which one until I separated them.

Thanks. I know that just the two of them together she seemed to pick on the white one, but now that there are 4 of them, she seemed to constantly chasing everyone. I was sad to separate them, but it seems the best thing now.

This morning the 4 in the pen were very calm. They are walking around, not running. They are a very quite group now, no more squack then run. Niqui is very quite in the bathroom too. I spent some time this morning cleaning the crate and room and she did very little talking to me and she didn't want to leave the crate. What an odd girl she is.

You are doing the right thing for a peaceful flock. There is a lot of good information here on BYC about pecking order problems, and removing the bully always is mentioned.

Links and/or pictures of parent flock?
I decided not to let the girls out of the pen today because I was busy doing indoor stuff, but I did take them a fun treat. We recently planted a bunch of trees in our field and had to dig up a bunch of grass. I gave them the clumps of grass/roots/dirt and they loved it. There are grubs and worms hiding in there. They didn't even bother trying to follow me out when I left the pen; normally they'd try to sneak out.
You've just given me a vague idea for my new pens I'm designing...something like heavy planter bases (those flat things) for placing big clumps of sod in? To help keep the sand clean while the flock gets a treat. Hmmm.

I'll ask again, does anyone know about geese, or maybe waterfowl in general, how they go about the nesting process? My lady goose is up to 3 or 4 eggs now in there, and has continued "building" the nest by placing a covering of grass and straw on top. The nest itself is out in the big wide open, on gravel

instead of the nice big Dogloo filled with hay that I gave to her. She still only sits on it to lay the newest egg. Should I try to make a cover for her nest? It's been drizzled on all night, as those of you in the Puget Sound are well aware!

Argh, why did my first broody have to be a goose?

First of all, HI! to Slinglings and Sudsy Chick!
