Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

7 years old? I'd campaign for a new computer, then just transfer the files and pics.

I have a feeling that there will be a period of transition while I use my husband's much newer machine- he's prone to using his work laptop for telecommuting, and his iPhone for poking the internet to see what falls out, and mostly uses his for bill paying and email- he doesn't write much of anything, nor do photoediting.

These are both iMacs: he does tech support for Windows-based and other-than-Apple CAD/CAM machines at work, so the household machines have always been Macs, and I'm not inclined to learn an entirely new set of quirks and weirdness right now.

One: I'm having trouble getting the Little Giant incubator tp stabilize at 99.1: I can have 98.5 but the next stop is 103.4, any suggestions? Help? Does the fact I'm running it dry and empty make a difference?

Also, I'm by way of being forced offline for a transitional period by something very wrong with the start-up sequence of my seven-year-old computer. We're going to back it up today (or rather DH is, I'm still getting new eggs and chickens where they belong) and I'll get an account going on my husband's machine, but I am displeased.

Both the "OLDER" LG's that use the wafer and the newer electronic are very touchy to adjust. On mine I put a large knob it is easier to make tiny adjustments. Yes it makes a difference if it is empty. Try adding a couple bottles full of water to act as heat sinks. That should help stabilize it then when you set eggs you can take the water out. Also IF you have the wafer style check the wafer to make sure it hasn't leaked and become ineffective. Hope this helps.

The larger knob sounds like a great idea, I'll have to see what I've got around to use- probably one of my gazzillion beads could be adapted for the purpose. Adding water bottles: warm or cold?

Warm will shorten the time to stabilize. Also most hardware stores have "universal" knobs that work well.

Yup- I think I need to go down to Bean Brother's emporium today, anyway, see what they've got in the way of things to screw on the end of hoses, since my favorite from the last four or five years has broken (why they can't just make one good kind of hose nozzle is beyond me; people don't come up with revolutionary hammer designs every year and stop making the old kind, now, do they?).

anyone know what type of chickens have black bones and a purplish color meat?    I butchered my moms rooster.   He was small, and pretty.   Normal feathers so not a silky.   But had 5 toes on each foot, and black bones.    also was extremely aggressive.

Ayem Cemani also have black skin, feathers, meat, etc.

I believe Sumatras have 5 toes, and black skin and bones.

Sumatras don't have 5 toes, they have Extra spurs though. They only have black skin on their faces. And their bones aren't black either.

dang.   If that is what he was no wonder he was so aggressive.    He came from "assorted" eggs i hatched.      the problem with assorted is you  don't know what you'll get.

Sumatras aren't aggressive. They aren't bred for that, so I don't think it was a sumatra.

I've had Sumatras for 10 years and never had an aggressive one. It sound like it might have been a silkie mix without the silkie feathers.

DeesHens - we LOVE Vitacost! It's where I used to get all my coconut milk, before we started making our own. We get almost all our vitamins and supplements from there, like 5-HTP, multivitamins, kid stuff, and tons of natural remedies! I buy Calms Forte for William like it's going out of style since it's the only thing that keeps him asleep at night! Everyone should shop there, it's amazing :)

Hi Jess!

I just started reading the Washington thread and I noticed you say you buy 5-HTP. I also purchased some after seeing it on Dr. Oz. The first time I took it though I was nauseous. The second time I had horrible dry heaves. Did you experience anything like this and did it get better with time?

Thanks, and I'm glad I finally decided to check out this thread.

Wow!! So many new babies! They are all so cute. I am hoping to have an incubator next year. Otherwise, I should have a broody or 2 by that time for hatching babies. I am SO excited for home grown babies. Today, my mom and I are shooting a wedding. I took my girls' senior pics last year and have done some kid pics, but a wedding is a big deal and I am really nervous. I guess there's nothing like jumping in with both feet. Please send good thoughts and/or prayers my way today. I am afraid that I am going to be shaky from the nerves. I really want this to go smoothly.

I gave the chicklets some rice and quinoa mixed with their feed this morning. I have never seen them eat so much. They were chattering away the whole time they ate their breakfast, it was cute. My parrots don't care for it as much, so they just got their regular feed with some apple slices today.

On Friday, I got visited by the swamp thing. Here are some pics:

He had mud on every square inch of his body, with the exception of where his underwear was. Had it been a little warmer, I would have just dunked him in the creek. I think he was afraid he was going to be in trouble, so by the time he came up to where I could see him, it was caked and more than half dry. Good times.

Good luck on the wedding. Are you Nikon or Canon person? I am a Nikon. I would be frightened to shoot a wedding. So much depends on it. Not like you can say CUT do that over again. Love your kids shots. I would have that printed and hung. He will love it when he is grown. You are very good.

Funny story. I got a light box and lights off of craigslist free list and decided to do the guys genealogy for a thank you. It was a big gift from him. So I am doing his genealogy as a surprise and it turns out we are cousins! We both descend from Henry Zumwalt the 1700's immigrant. How fun is that?

There are so many talented artistic people on this forum. Maybe we should share what our passions are so we can hook up with other things?

I am an artist. My mediums are painting, oil my favorite medium. Photography, I use Nikon D80. Wish I could get the new ones! Computer Graphics, Love to paint on the computer. Such instant gratification. Boy, the new PhotoShop and Illustrator sure are advanced and with DreamWeaver being swallowed by them. Need to get upgraded as it has been a few years since I was actively involved in it. I am also a genealogy nut. Started long before computers and LOVE the advances in in history being preserved. Have been active in helping with that. Gardening has always been in my genes. I was brought up by rock hound parents so I have a love for all things pretty. I have always had animals, from the stickel back minnow I had on my window sill as a kid to the Horn Toads I tormented my parents with. I don't think there is a time in my life when I didn't have fur on my cloths from a pet. I can't imagine life without animals.

Been married 40 yrs and have 2 grown children, 3 1/2 grandchildren (one on the way), 1 1/2 great grandchildren. A 97 yr old mother. And a husband that doesn't really enjoy my hobbies.

Things I wish I could do on my bucket list: Live near Poulsbo, Kitsap County WA
Have a friend who has horses and wants someone to ride with them all the time.
Fishing, I have not fished in years and have never been deep sea fishing. Need a friend with all the accouterments that needs a buddy or two.
I want to learn Mushrooming and have a buddy to go out and pick.

Quote: You have to start very slowly. Much of the seratonin in your body is in your digestive track, I've read as high as 95%, so anything that increases seratonin will affect your stomach and intestine function. Try taking it immediately before falling asleep, you may sleep through the worst of it. You will adjust slowly over a couple of weeks.

These chewable tablets are a good way of getting a tiny bit at a time: http://www.amazon.com/Carlson-Healthy-Raspberry-Chewables-Tablets/dp/B001LF39HY

There are also time released ones that may help prevent the nausea but I haven't tried it.

I can now take a full dose in the evening with no stomach problems.
