I looked up Neosporin; it's a triple antibiotic, but it has to be just the most basic stuff. Sorry to sound like a broken record. Hope that helps!

Thank you. Good that you sound like a broken record!!! I just found a post that said the pain killers can kill chickens. Looks like the Neosporin we have has a pain killer in it. Looks like I'm going to the store.

Sorry about Blackie!!! Get some blu-kote to keep the other girls from picking at it too, wear gloves and clothing you don't care about.

HELP!!!!

Blackie has most of her comb torn off. I don't know how or when it happened. She has blood all down her beak and face. I know we need to get her washed up and put into a hospital kennel. Can we put neosporin on the wound? If not, what?
You can use Neosporin... Just make sure you dont use anything with a caine in it like Lidocaide. As far as I know Neosporin does not use any caine's in their products. But make sure you double check the package just in case.

Blackie is such a calm little girl. We cleaned her up best as we could and applied "original" Neosporin. At this point we won't use BluKote since she is inside the house in the hospital kennel. So sad for our little sweetie. Not sure what to do about the big chunk of comb hanging of. Wish I knew what happened, too.

Matt doesn't get a free pass from me. He came on here with an attitude and it hasn't improved.
Insults people, then tries to worm his way out of it with "make nice words". Complete bs.
As others have said, this is a social chicken forum.

Matt if you want experts go to those forums and enjoy yourself.

Garbage, indeed.

I agree, no pass on this. It was the obvious mean-spirited tone that was so offensive. Not the sign of a friendly person.

I need some advice, too. I just let my two young pullets in with my hens to test the waters. They're getting along famously! Whew, didn't need to worry after all.

BUT.... the feed. The tykes get chick feed (crumbles) that's 18% protein. The hens get Layer (pellets) with 16% protein.
What do you feed a combined flock? If I go to non-layer pellets + shell on the side, the protein is low. If I go with all chick feed + shell on the side, the hens are going to throw the crumbles far and wide - again. Does anybody sell chick *pellets* or the equivalent? I've got about 9 more weeks of this so it's going to take a full bag of something, I guess.

Suggestions Please! (I'd rather not keep doing wet crumbles).
I feed Flock Raiser(fermented) and offer grit and oyster shell free choice.
Quote: 20% is not too much., It actually helps promote more egg production and feather health. Anything over 30% and it becomes hard on their system.

Looks like she challenged a higher ranking girl and lost. At this point you will just have to let it heal as is. If you would have used super glue when it was an open bleeding wound, it would have closed it back in place. And yes you can use super glue on wounds. I have done it to myself. She will be fine in a few days.

Guinea hens are awfully noisy. Not appropriate for your average neighborhood.
That's about as much as I figured. Although I can't find anything outlawing them in Vancouver, it seems like common sense prevails here. I like my neighbors and don't wish to upset them.
I love Guineas, but like peafowl, they're only for people with no close neighbors.

Hopefully one day I can live somewhere without close neighbors! I dream about this a lot.

Oh poor baby! That looks awful.

I would just give it time to heal and see where it goes. I can't really tell much from the picture. Maybe it will fall off as it heals?
