Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I know what you mean. Even though I don't work, it's not much fun doing much by myself, so have to wait for weekend to spend with himself. We did have a great mini vacation last weekend though (plus Friday, Monday and Tuesday). Naturally he came home to a panic message from work and chaos to straighten out!

Vacation sounds nice. I own and run my own business but just moved to a larger location and due to cost of the new overhead I'm working 6 days a week 10+ hours a day. But I still get to enjoy the outdoors when it's barn chore time!

:drool Ohhh you got some Langshan eggs??  Can't wait to see how it goes! Who'd you get them from?:ya

They came from eBay, one batch for James Davis in TN and another dozen from a Matt something in PA. I have a huge weakness for Langshans and right now can't afford to have adults shipped so risked some cheap eggs. The adults looked good which is the important thing. Edit: very nervous about the whole thing. In 20 years I've never tried shipped eggs so I guess we'll see how it goes!

Good luck with your Ameracaunas, I had some very nice blues and blacks for a couple years from a breeder up northern washington (who I won't mention because while I think they're awesome, they apparently aren't liked on here). They're a fun breed. Chickening out. LOL Probably a good move, all I see on there is EE pretending to be Ameracaunas usually. Did you see the gorgeous White Ameracauna that was at the PNPA show a couple weeks ago? Wow, and he was HUGE.

I figured ebay was just as reliable quality wise as here, although I wanted to get some adults shipped from Joe Oakley in Ohio, this was an economical option in a time where that matters a lot on this little chicken ranch. I'm just happy they all survived shipping, the first ones the box had a corner crushed in by a couple inches! I will definitely keep posted, candle and set new eggs every friday/saturday so.

Today was a much better day. I think I'm slowly getting used to this whole working thing again. I can't wait to get my first check! I am immediately going to go out coop hunting. Now that I make my OWN money I'm gonna buy whatever coop I want!!! (

to DF) Knowing I will be able to get a good coop is why I'm not too mad about being given so many hours right off the bat.

I know for sure I want to get at least two Silkies but what would be good to raise with them? Anyone have any ideas for chickens that would get along well with silkies that aren't too flighty?

I've also been emailing back and forth with my homeowners insurance company since I heard that some providers will cancel/up your policy for having chickens.

Makes no sense to me unless you're running a business.

ok everyone, here's a pic of the little girl who made it (and me). I've named her Kismet!

Sweet little baby!
Great day in the NW, makes one hate their jobs sometimes! LOL

Candling day on eggs and got my first two dozen Langshan eggs shipped to me and waiting to go in. Never tried shipping eggs before so I'm excited to see how it goes!
That's exactly how I felt today! I would rather be home grilling and working out in the yard, but instead I was stuck at work. :(

Hang on to your hats, this is a lot of multi-quoting!
Does anybody have swedish flower hens?
Look over at the Buy-Sell-Trade section. I know there are good people who have them on BYC, although not locally (yet). I have some shipped eggs in the incubator, but I don't have high hopes.

My newest frizzle.
Aren't frizzles cute? And friendly! I fulfilled my chick lust by stopping by TSC and picking up some random babies that turned out to be some kind of frizzle.
In other news, the baby goats are doing well, and the meaties are growing. Should do a first butcher in a couple of weeks. Oh, and my Champagne D'Argent bunny had babies, 4 days later than expected. Hubby went to put her back with the buck and there was the lovely nest choc full of newborns.

Oh, she waited til I left! But I have about 15 more eggs to bring over tomorrow (Saturday) for the big bator. I'll be PMing you.

Thought I would post this link for you guys too. A BYC interactive member map! If you are interested we would love to see your dot added. A member named Ken started this map and it has been in use for a while in the Tx thread. The link is in my signature line.
I'll check it out, thanks.

Good lick Matt! I have Polish eggs peeping as we speak that were shipped eggs. I lost a couple but most of them looked great going into lock down
Yeah a bit crazy but the waters are smooth. We do have some great people around here. Sorry about hen. I think you're really going to like that Swedish hen I've heard a lot of nice things about them. Berrytangle farm out near you has them I think. They have some cool birds and wow are they nice people.
Hehe, good lick...hehe, sorry B&B hit me hard on that one!

Good luck on your eggs, sometimes they actually DO hatch...!

I'm bummed about the FB thing as I don't use it. Tried, failed. Darn it.

BTW, does anyone here listen to KAOS, the Evergreen State College radio station? They are the BEST, hands down. Right now they have on some great jazz and blues from the 30s -40s or so. Never a dull moment. I have a brief and vivid memory of laying down in the back seat of my mother's car, driving up the roadway to the college, looking up out the window at all of the immense trees. She was thinking of taking a job there. I wish she had. This was when the college was just opening! It was so far out of my normal surroundings - all that natural beauty and woods...

I don't see a signature line. Is that because I am using a smart phone? Maybe the mobile version is different since I don't get advertising either.

What happened to the Barnevelder? I must have lost track. Those Swedish Flower hens sure are pretty.

I'll post pics of the others - they are all doing well. Other mama had 3 bucklings, so I won't name them (being dinner). Good sized babies they are too.

Betsy, my Barnie is fine. She's terribly skittish. Probably because of all the nasty stuff we did when she first arrived, poor girl. But that's all healed and she's very healthy. By fall she will be the only big girl in the flock. Wonder if her role will change? She's at the bottom of the order now, except for the babes. She lays nice big eggs, 3 or 4 a week, usually one every other day.

I'm glad all three bucklings are doing well, and Kismet. I like that name. So you'll keep her, huh? Have you figured out how to make goat milk soap yet?

I really hope so, they sound great, especially the Hardy part. I'm not familiar with Berrytangle, I'll try to find them. Do you know what town or area they're in? I found three people locally but only heard back from one and she only has eggs available. But, I'm set for now and looking forward to her. I hope she gets along well with the Am. and the GSL, they're nice girls so far.

ETA:
Okay, I found them. They're in Poulsbo but they don't list Swedish Flower Hen as something they have. The do Olansk and Icelandic and Orps. Rats.

I'm on my laptop using Firefox and there is rarely adds. It's blank up top, and grayed out at the bottom. Don't know why...

Gosh, I'm the edit queen.
I want to shout to the world that I am finally hatching out chicks! I have some mixed breeds fathered by a beautiful bantam BBR Phoenix and several different hens, 4 turkeys, and finally some Porcelain d'Uccles! Yay!

The broody goose is up to, count 'em, 11 eggs! Is that normal?!?
