Gorgeous!!! I always plant purple irises when I move into a new house in memory of my uncle. They're so beautiful!

Hey everyone!

My first hatch was better than I could have anticipated thanks to some fantastic eggs I bought from another BYCer. My question to you all is where do you offload your roosters once you figure out who is who? Here on BYC? Craigslist? Have you had any trouble either selling or giving away said roosters?

I would look into processing my own Roos but I do not have my own house yet to set up or even the freezer space to store processed chickens. Right now the chicks are < 3 days old and there is no chance I am skilled enough to sex them now.

I take extra cockerels to one of two places, either Woody's auction (insert your local livestock auction here), or the closest slaughterhouse I can find that will process poultry.

Crows and ravens have carried off my chicks, ducklings and goslings. They wait until a baby is far behind and snag them. I have see it several times. Now I raise my ducks and chicks in the barn. As for the goslings, they are with their parents in the pond. They lose about 2/3 of the babies each year. You can't kill them as it is illegal so I run out towards them with a stick and chase them off. They fly 50 feet away and sit in a tree until I leave. I have 5 or so and one year watched them pick off four chicks in about one minute.

Hey Guys, I am a new member. I live in downtown Puyallup. I was directed here from the new meber forum. I joined because we are looking at starting our own chicken coop. I was hoping to find someone local who might be willing to show me there set up and/or maybe come take a look at what I have to work with and bounce my thoughts off of. I want to make sure that I get set up correctly and preferably learn from someone else's mistakes/experience. Any help would be much appreciated!!!

46 replies in a day, and I'm the only one viewing right now? Unprecedented! I feel like if this thread slows down, one side will cook while the other side will become deathly cold, the atmosphere will burn off, all life will succumb to radiation exposure of open space and BYC will be no more! This thread must keep spinning or

WE
WILL
ALL
DIE!!!!

If you are considering not putting in an extra door somewhere because they are a pain to build, just build the extra door. You will be glad you did in the long run. That's my 2 cents!
