Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I hope all y'all have a great time in Puyallup today; me, I've got too much to do to go anywhere except places that sell gourmet cheese and clipper parts, or something.

Got most of enough sleep last night, although the part where I woke up with leg cramps was unpleasant.

No eggs yet, both rat baits gone, feeders let down to chicken height...Now I have to take a double handful of pills (I'm trying psyllium for blood-fats, since the dose of Lipitor that doesn't leave me screaming in pain doesn't put my labs where my doc wants them and an extremely low-fat diet screws up my diabetic control like whoa and does nothing good about my blood fats: yes, my life is all bad choices).
Came home in the early afternoon. Am going to take nap now. Will go back to pick up my birds tomorrow afternoon.

Isn't Lipitor supposed to be bad for diabetes?

Nope; it's one of the three drugs which best practice says all Type 2 diabetics should be taking (the other two are Metformin and Lisinopril). Of course neither of those are without problems; regular Metformin messes with my stomach, and it is possible that the problems I have in swallowing are due to Lisinopril.

I have trouble tolerating niacin (probably related to hypervitaminosis as a small child who loved the taste of our liquid vitamins); tried it back when I was first diagnosed with hypertension.

Or as the saying goes, stay young and healthy. Of course a lot of the annoying complexity of my health botheration is directly due to chronic staph and strep infections as a young child, and a nearly-fatal case of hard measles. Oh, yeah, and juvenite shingles, ugh. And then there's the "everybody's body works a little differently:" I have to watch rice and potatoes because they drive my BG skyward, and am developing new vegetable sensitivities by the day, it feels like.

About the Brinsea EcoGlow....It's dark underneath of it right? So the babies get some "dark" when they go underneath of it? I want one because I worry so much about having the heat lamp on all the time. And I DO feel bad about them not getting the night day cycle when I use the heat lamp. They are always in there eating, drinking and pooping. Even if you use a 75 w lightbulb they still have 24 hour light cycle! What's the answer? They need to stay warm. Do you think the Brinsea is?

Paradox: this looks awesome. Thanks for posting. I'm working on my own design for a short run and access for cleaning is my main concern.
Have fun at the fair and we'll see you tomorrow at noon.
Looks like Slinglings, TerrorBird, Sudsy Chick, Jenn, and I'm not sure who else is coming.
New peeps - please feel free to join us. It's really wonderful to know folks outside of chatting on the forum.
A lot of us get together and help each other out with building and whatnot.
Is the meet up tomorrow at noon at 3rd place books? Never did really hear the final plans. thanks,

If anyone is interested, the state is looking for volunteers for (free) avian flu testing. Not everyone qualifies, it is largely dependent on your location.

The NPIP/AI program for Washington state is essentially free unless you have LOTS of chickens.

Ask Michelle Gill at the WDSA office. She's wonderful!

I have been meaning to post this for a couple of days now. Update on my run. It does look a little patch-worky, that was my way of experimentng with different ways of making the run modular. This is the first half of their enclosed run, I'll be adding another similar enclosure to the far side of the coop next week.

The far side is permanent. The end is semi-permanent, the screen panel can be removed by removing 4 screws.

The roof coems out too.

The front has a door that opens up, a small door for chickens to pass to a future tractor, and finally a panel the comes out completely.

For now it's off to the fair for some fun.

How does this work do you know how many birds they will test for free? I've been thinking about doing this.
