Old houses were built with climate control in mind.They're much more likely to have deep eaves to keep out the summer sun, and have windows on all sides for cross ventilation.

Don't mind at all...and I have looked up all the hints, from Aronia to Twin Berry and it does not sound like the right bush.
I will go collect some seeds for you today, OH, I also have a cement 'head' for your garden collection in trade for the orchid, OK ?
I am planning on a trip around Lake Wa in the next 2 weeks due to being stranded here for a week !

Oy. I really need to supervise people who are helping me; I went in to break up the over-crowded box of Hamburgs and found out that it had had sand added but not emptied for long enough I needed to take the stuff out with a shovel. It was a bad enough job that I'm whacked, and still have all the outdoor work to do and the sheep is still not naked.

I wonder if drinking some coffee would wake me up enough to go out and face the day?

BTW, and trying to keep my temper here: my ID of that plant as Lonicera involucrata was in no way a mere "suggestion." There is no other plant, native nor introduced, with the positive identifying feature of twin berries in a papery bract.

I actually have had to know this stuff for more than one job. It's right down the middle of what I've been trained to do.

Rhodebar are the breed that auto sex all the time right. The rooster are awesome with their multi-color look. You are a very lucky lady to get that kind of gift, maybe after you get some and I get some chicks of my SPR's we can trade some to keep both lines going like Bob and the other heritage breeders are doing.

Those are the ones... and the adults look sizzlingly awesome, I have to say. BUT! I really don't want to breed more than one LF... partly 'cause for every one I need 2 roosters and I already *planned* on 4 or 5 with 2 HRIR and 2 or 3 bantam. Two Rhodebar pairs makes 6 or 7, plus all the other cockerels who will be lunch if not re-homed (3 nice icelandics, 3 Black Maran - technically there is one Black Maran pair, the pullet seems to be recovering from her unfortunate injuries nicely). I keep talking about them hoping someone will show an interest... I would feel lucky, indeed, but in order to aquire additional blood on the rhodebars (since I can't find anyone local other than the lady who gave them to me) it will cost at least 50$ per *unsexed chick* to get the 2 additional hens. Odds would be that I'd need to buy at least 6 to be certain I'd get 2 hens. That's beyond me. And no, I won't re-home them for that much. I think that's robbery, honestly. If our situation/lot size were a bit different, I'd probably want some of your SPR's as well. Why not? I am that crazy. I'm even looking at being talked into heritage Cornish (not show, not CX) instead of bantams. My understanding is that pushes me over the edge of crazy into HyperLoco. Thanks for the offer, though. It would just be too much for me to add another breed. As it is, I have found some pullets in TX that Mr. Fogle said would be nice hens, and the gentleman will mail them to me in the Fall. 4 hens. Less than half the price of 6un sexed day old chicks. What can I say? Sometimes the wallet wins.

I have a 14 mo Black Australorp that seems to have gone broody - in the hottest part of the year no less. I believe it is the second time she has done this -I have 2 BA's - not sure if it was this one - went broody a few months ago, but was able to break her easily that time. She's having none of this pushing her out of the nest this time - even tho there are NO eggs under her.

Wondering should I try to find a few eggs for her to sit (I have no fertile eggs myself) - or try harder to break the broodiness since it is so hot?

Suggestions? Advice?

any help anyone???

&/or is there anyone near Snohomish who has some inexpensive fertile eggs for me to give her to see how good she is as a broody?

I'm thinking 6 eggs for a first try? - & if I had a choice, I prefer larger, hardier breeds - no banty's no fancy's. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a test hatch. I'd drive Mt. Vernon to Seattle.

Or is this too late in the season to consider letting her sit??

I have silkies setting eggs now. I just don't like chicks in the coldest weather. I've let them hatch as late as November and the chicks did very well.
