Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hello all! This is my first post on BYC after months of lurking. I just got my first chicks a couple days ago here in the Olympia/Tumwater area. I have two Buff Orpingtons and a Barred Plymouth Rock chick, all females. They're all 15 days old. I absolutely adore them but my 3 year old son is the chick whisperer.. He reads and sings to them at bedtime and is so gentle with them (petting only, not ready to hold them yet). We're building a small coop this weekend and this site has been super helpful in planning and designing it. I'll be sure to share pictures when it's finished! For now, here are a couple photos even though I know you've all seen a million chicks before

Also, Yeah ... we might have seen a million photos of chicks. But we NEVER get bored of 'em! And yours are sweet!
I've got a few buff Orpingtons too. LOVE THEM! So sweet!

So we are off early to go visit Mom & Dad and show them the baby ducks...Mom has always loved baby ducks and she no longer gets around well anymore.
Then we meet TC who is picking up duckles, and Margaret's friend who is getting eggs...and we are after a nice 6 chair glass top patio set w/umbrella if anyone knows where a nice set is at for a good price ?

Later chookies !

Baby chicks are so cute but they only stay little a cute for such a short time. Mine are at the scruffy 4 week stage, so its fun to see other peoples new babies. Welcome to our forum. Hope you enjoy hanging out with us.

Hey Carolyn...are you having issues with these super tiny mites ?
Let me know !

No, no problems. In fact I haven't seen mites of any kind in quite some time. I'm getting ready to add some 5-week chicks and I'm cleaning out the dog house coop that's been sitting empty since last spring. I sprayed the inside with bleach solution and thought it might be a good idea to treat it and the main coop with sevin, just for good measure. But I didn't want to poison anybody either.

Thanks for the extra info. though. It's good to have it before I need it, rather than scrambling later.

Cute chicks, It's nice your little boy is getting to make friends with them. I love to watch little kids with baby anythings.

You've probably already read how important it is to build your coop and run to keep out predators. That seems to be the #1 problem for most new peeps.
Enjoy! Chickens are Great!

Welcome!

Those chicks are going to love people when they grow up with the attention you're lavishing on them.

Does anyone here use Safeguard to treat their chickens for tapeworms? I have never used it but was considering trying it for the new chicken. hes been treated with ivomec which covers a wide array of gastrointestinal round worms, lung & heart worms as well as lice & mites. but everything ive read on it says it doesnt treat tapeworms. The safeguard does but I am unsure of the oral dosage for a LF chicken.
