Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I was out mowing. Had to get to done. That foot and a half grass that grew in the last two weeks since I mowed was getting to be to much.

I have broodies sitting eggs and will hopefully have 13 partridge silkie chicks in a few weeks. I'll be keeping two to three pullets and a cockerel.
OMG I Know the grass & brush & weeds are growing so fast you can hear it grow !!!

it was over a year span and I put up netting.....was so happy to see a hawk bounce off the net... chickens are lot happier that they are not getting picked off by the hawks and eagles

I JUST GAVE A HUGE NET TO eLIZMARTIN....THERE IS ANOTHER HERE. WE HAVE ALOT OF THEM AVAILABLE.
tHEy are called clam nets, and for some reason they are suddenly abandoned & piles of them are at the dump...which is bad as they are plastic

I HATE this new keyboard despite what RonB says :::

I AM NOT GETTING USED TO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone needs this net, PM me.
I can get them for you.
Realize they are heavy, they are NOT bird netting.
These are heavy & can be used as sides o pens, as well as other applications.

Hi Alice and Welcome to the group! Glad you took the plunge and posted here.

Cute chicks, It's nice your little boy is getting to make friends with them. I love to watch little kids with baby anythings.

You've probably already read how important it is to build your coop and run to keep out predators. That seems to be the #1 problem for most new peeps.
Enjoy! Chickens are Great!
Carolyn, I just wanted to tell you how wonderful you have been, assiting newbies & BEING A FANTASTIC byc'ER !

Crossposting because I'm soo SQUEEEE!!!
Our broody's chicks are hatching today! Day 24. I'd very nearly given up on her.

So far there's this little guy, who looks to be half australorp and half orpington, and there's also one who's all yellow, so probably 100% orpington. Eight more to go!
OH CANNOT BE A JG !
So cute !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish I could post more. For some reason I can stalk the forum from work but cannot reply to posts! By the time I get home I forget what I wanted to comment on ... lol

We just moved the chicks to the big girl coop (although we do have a couple of roosters) and it was the funniest thing to watch. They all hopped and flew around. One would start and then the rest would follow, it was crazy. Got lots of happy clucks from them.

On a side note. I talked to the guy at work and asked if he had Java chickens and he said no. They have one all black mutt rooster who must have gotten in with the Barred Rock. So the mystery chicks continue to be mystery's, at least till they get older and even then it will only be a guess.
Javas ???????????????????
Talk to me or

(when you send a reply to Monte, put "Javas" in the subject line.

Expanding my flock and will be in need of a second coop... SO. besides stalking craigs list I thought to ask around. I live in the Bellingham area ... North of Seattle by 2.5 hours.
We are at this time in SPRING, opening up coops that have been shut down & stored for winter, and the tracters as well.
And shipments of meaties arrive shortly.
Usually we have a shipment @ May 1st and another @ June,
This year we are doing 1 shipment @ Cinco de Mayo is the day !!
So, I have the brooder ready...and from their the little butter balls go in the tractor.

Have you considered a tractor ?

So above, you can see how Einstein connected this wafer therm to a heater, and yes all the babies are so warm & happy !

Tractor lid opened.
Einstein made this specifically to go bolt right in on our lawn tractor....he made it from old bed frame angle.
These pics are all taken with very young Cornish X.

We have several of these here today...if you need help. PM or just ask..I'll do what I can to help.

Q: Over the airholes you will see net glued... so we did not have no-see-ums after our birds...which has been very bad here the last 3 years, but this years, they are GONE !
