Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Haha. Well my husband will die of irritation if I do this repeatedly. I'm not even sure he's convinced I am doing this once...
By they time I graduated to the incubator to hatching bator system, mine had given up hope.
I dropped all pretenses & admitted that I have a problem.

We compromised after I had re-homed more rare birds than I kept. He is currently working on converting his nice, new, big tool shed into a 4 phase double brooder, grow out pen & breeding coop. In addition to my very large, 3 time remodeled laying coop/run. This new arrangement will both feed my addiction & his belly with some tasty Sulmtalers. It's a win win...for us not the birds.
good luck!

Ecoglow brooder. Chicks don't spend all their time in heat that way. More like how they just go under the broody when they are cold. They don't get hot enough to catch anything on fire and use very little power. I love my little Ecoglow 20. Now they are a little pricey, but if you raise a lot of chicks it will pay for itself in power savings. I like the safety of them.

I LOVE my EcoGlow 20! I winced a little when I paid for it, but quickly realized the peace of mind was SO worth it. And it's way less expensive power-wise than a heat lamp. I could sleep easier at night knowing I wasn't going to burn the house down! This past Spring, I was using a heat lamp and was so stressed about it, that 3 days into my chick raising, I ordered a Brinsea and had it shipped immediately!

oh! There so cute. I'm hoping to add an Orpington to my flock. My list of breeds I want are 1 EE, 1 Orpington, 1silkie, and 1 Barred Rock. Thats just the short list. I've been banned from having more than 10 adult birds at a time :(

Oh no! Just went out check the girls and make sure they all made it into the new coop and I noticed some one attacked my little pullet Mable. I think it was Brownie cause I've seen her push the babies around everyonce in a while but I've never seen her full on attack the little ones. Poor Mable has had her neck feathers plucked clean off. There is a little blood but I don't see cuts or scrapes on her skin. What should I do at this point? Put Mable separate that would upset her as she would be separated from her mom. Segregate Brownie? Or let us go a just watch them for now. If Brownie keeps attaching them then she gonna find herself in the pot.

I am looking for chicks, but it is almost impossible to find anything at this time of the year, is there any hatcheries that sell chicks now? Perhaps I would have to wait until February.
