I started soaking feed this week too and adding apple cider vinegar as well…seems like the feed goes farther???
I started fermenting about 2 weeks ago as an experiment and I was getting 2-3 eggs a day, now I get 7-9 a day. Not sure if it's coincidence or the fermented feed though. I do have 27 laying age hens so it could be that they are just getting back into laying mode after the molt.
Does anyone raise bourbon red turkeys? I've been trying to find a breeder but I'll order them from a hatchery if I have too.
Are the girls keeping up the production trend? How goes the soaked/fermented feed?
It does seem to go farther doesn't it?! I think it gives more bang for the buck by making it more bio-available. I think they are able to devote more energy to eggs than digesting and breaking down feed this way.
How are your adventures in soaked feed going?
Have you tried Western Washington Poiltry on FB? There's usually some on there.
If hatchery route, call all the feed stores that are in your driving range and ask if they are ordering turkeys and if they can add your wish list….many can even at this late date usually with a deposit. I'm sure there are folks in western Wa. with them….There used to be someone Bremerton???? somewhere over there that raised a variety of turkey breeds…..maybe try turkeys and R.Burbon on byc ??? or ad on craigs in farm section for wanted…..Wanted notes on Feedstore billboards?Does anyone raise bourbon red turkeys? I've been trying to find a breeder but I'll order them from a hatchery if I have too.
