Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Just a newbie to BYC introducing myself.

I am in the process of getting back into chickens after many years of being too busy working and traveling to care for them. A year into retirement and I couldn't withstand any longer the desire to have some feathered members of the family.

My husband and I live on ten lovely acres on Marrowstone Island, which is on the Olympic Peninsula not far from Port Townsend. We run a small B&B and look forward to adding fresh chicken eggs to the current list of garden fresh produce we make available to guests. We are currently designing and building our chicken's setup and will be getting hatching eggs within the next month or so. I am considering both welsummers and cream legbars, as I am interested in good foraging heritage egg layers.

Any advice is appreciated, as there is obviously a wealth of knowledge on this board. Thanks to all those who so generously share it!

Here's our little homestead.

Gorgeous homestead! I wish our fixer property looked that great! Well, one day! What is the name of your B&B so I can look it up? We are getting chicks soon and I am definitely getting Welsummers and possibly the CLs too, for the same reason as you and I love the colors of their eggs. Good luck!

Need to find homes for 2 georgeous cochin cockerals 8 weeks old. One barred and the other I think Crele? The Crele one Im not truly sure if cockeral...just 99% sure.FREE. I live in Battle Ground. Both hand raised (held atleast twice daily) , fed organic and treated with amprolium for prevention of coccidiosis.

Welcome!

For Welsummers my first choice would be Erhard -- Kummer Poultry in Black Diamond (google his web page for contact info). The go to person for Cream Legbars would be @Flaming Chicken

Best of luck with your B&B homestead!

A good person to contact for Bielefelders locally is Tami in Maple Valley. She may be the one on CL, not sure.
Send me a Private Msg and I'll be happy to give you her e-mail (with her permission).

In case anyone is looking for chicks, I have baby Easter Eggers for sale. They are Crested Cream Legbar crosses. I also have NN Turkens if you are looking for a dual purpose bird. Located in South King County.
