Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I would love half Hammies and some Penedesencas... but can only find roos for sale. Major bummer. Oh well, somethi.g to lust for NEXT year... Right? Lol
Keep looking, and if you can, get to the poultry show up coming in March that will be 1 of 2 we have every year here in Washington.
This show will be at the Evergreen State fairgrounds in Monroe.
You can also check into members of the Washington Feather fanciers (like me) or members of the Society for Poultry Antiquaties (like me) who have a member & breeder's registry book so I can look up who has what birds in the USA.
I'll look for you as soon as I get a chance, but have gobs to do today & go in the hospital tomorrow A.M.

Quote: Interesting !
Yes I know they stew/soup their black 'cheekuns' and swear they are as medicinal as delicious.
Odd asian love them more (at even $10-15 each) instead of our 'American' chicken at $1.49 a #..............
One little cambodian that comes here the last few years who is such a sweetheart, he must be 70 Y.O. and always asks for black cheekun, and he says in so much broken English 'It make him big strong man make much love' all the while, he makes a big arm muscle pose.................... OK, TMI for me !
This guy is about 4 1/2 feet tall & truly is very strong !
But that is far as I want to go in that conversation !

We love our home raised Cornish X we refer to as "CornBalls" and I do not think we are going to raise any this year, but usually we raise & butcher 50, 25 in the spring about March, and 25 hatched in about May 1st, about the time the first batch is out of the brooder & into the Chicken Tractor.
I am a fan of grass fed (as much as possible) cornish X for BBQs...flavourful, tender, juicy and no hormones or antibiotics in our home raised meat.

The blue silkies I had before were very docile. Some of the older LF hens thought these were going to be just as easy to take stuff from. They had a very rude awakening. These silkies will run them off from their own treats instead of the other way around.
I have never had the oppurtunity to watch a herd of silkies ...I bet it is fun !

yeas my tomatoeas are astarted cucumber, billion different pepperas,, dill, asome prettyas, chiveas, onionas, garlic, dill, alpine astraqwberrieas, artichokeas bok choy...astill need to do another aset of aseedas..got diastracted planting asome prettieas to attract pollinatoras and asuch......and clearing ivy off the aslope,..infact noticed my aseedlingas coming in
You just reminded me I still have not separarted my strawberries !
Doggonit !
I should have done it last year !
Guess I better go do it right now..............shouldn't take long, right ?
Famous last words !
My Garlic Chives wintered over nicely and are healthy & green as can be..............scallions have yet to come up but it has just been a week or 2..........I planted snow peas 3 days ago...gotta have the snow peas & scallion (Evergreen bunching spring onion) in all stir fry !
I could not believe the cost of baby greens or snow peas in the stores !

The Evergreen Bunching onion has done well here even in the 20 degree weather and under snow.
Flashy Trouts back lettuce did OK in snow here also !

There's actually 5 shows in Washington.

March 14 - Washington Feather Fanciers, Monroe, WA

March 28 - Springtime's Hatching Show, Kennewick, WA

October (3rd weekend) - Pacific Northwest Poultry Association Show, Ridgefield, WA

October ? - Columbia River Poultry Exhibitors, Stevenson, WA

Nov ? - Washington Feather Fanciers, Chehalis, WA

There is also a show in June in Albany, OR at the Mother Earth News Fair, and my understanding is the people that put on the Oregon Poultry Swaps are going to be attempting to hold a show at their Fall Swap this year first weekend of October. Which rounds out the OR and WA shows.

I have relapsing/remissing MS and don't drive. The fact that I can catch bus right in front of my house and still have chickens was a major selling point of moving 3000 miles to be here! So, unless I find some other chicken fanciers in or around Aberdeen and Hoquiam, I won't be able to make it to the fairs or shows easily, I am afraid. I just got back from fighting with city hall about permits for flood damage repairs, I still would like to fight them for a couple Cayuga ducks for slug control and mowing duties. Lol

The Hammies should work well this year and perhaps I can find some PendWhatevers (lol) to add later. I am just thrilled to have chickens again! I attacked bushes with a chainsaw past weekend, this weekend I am starting the coop if the weather holds!

Out of the 2 March shows, which is bigger?

We LOVE our friends in Washington State and we know y'all love to chat! The original Washingtonians thread has over 80,000 replies which is AMAZING!

It's great to see peeps who love raising backyard chickens come together, but all that discussion in a 5 year old thread is bogging down the server when we do updates. For this reason we're starting this new Washingtonians thread.

Rest assured that the entire original Washingtonians thread will remain closed from new replies, but completely intact. You'll be able to reference, search, and read it any time!

Please continue all of your great discussions here.

Thanks to all our Washington friends for being (chatty) members of our wonderful community!!!!
SPOKANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
