Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hello from Rainier. I started with geese and I am ready for chicks. Can any of you tell how and where you get your chicks? I am really looking for a mix to include Marans, Jersey, Orpingtons...primarily color eggs layers.

I've looked at Meyer and Sand Hill...

Thanks~
Hello MrsSalo....I also live in Rainier...just a little north of the Post Office in the Tipsoo Loop area. How close are we to each other? I'm really surprised and happy to find someone who lives near me. Have you raised any chicks at all or has it just been geese? We just got 6 little chicks...our very first! The are living in the office with me right now. They are just so cute.

Hello All,
frow.gif

I haven't been on for a while, but I have some baby RUNNER ducklings

that hatched if anyone is interested.
Colors include: Ancona, Saxony, Apricot, Trout, Pinto, Rusty White, White and some are 4 color confetti splashes that I call Rainbow :)
Their parents are from Holderread's rare color collection and they lay XL blue & green eggs. One lays a spotted egg.

Please PM if you are interested and I will try and post pohots.

The males are actually the quiet ones. My female duck is definitely the noisy one of my current ancona trio. She kinds honks in comparison to the rasping sound the boys make.

Nothing available until they hatch in 2 weeks. But you can come grab a few Cayuga ducklings straight run if you want. I haven't set a price yet or anything though. I'll have probably 5 available if all of the eggs I set hatch. They are all doing perfectly so far.
Hi Espresso & Overeggstended! I am so glad to see duck folks here.

YES! Unlike roosters, the male ducks are the silent flock defenders. My ducklings have imprinted on humans, so they follow me to the garden for slug patrol every morning. When they were younger, I would walk with them to cut the big slugs but the big ducks can hunt giant ones all day and now I just leave them alone to find their own protein and supplement their breakfast. I am having problems finding enough slugs in my garden to introduce the babies to them now. No slugs to be found.

There's actually 5 shows in Washington.

March 14 - Washington Feather Fanciers, Monroe, WA

March 28 - Springtime's Hatching Show, Kennewick, WA

October (3rd weekend) - Pacific Northwest Poultry Association Show, Ridgefield, WA

October ? - Columbia River Poultry Exhibitors, Stevenson, WA

Nov ? - Washington Feather Fanciers, Chehalis, WA

There is also a show in June in Albany, OR at the Mother Earth News Fair, and my understanding is the people that put on the Oregon Poultry Swaps are going to be attempting to hold a show at their Fall Swap this year first weekend of October. Which rounds out the OR and WA shows.
When I say 'WE' I am speaking of we WFF's and no one else.
I do not belong to any other poultry club locally, so I do not have any info on them.
What you need to do, however, is tell the person who asked me, not me myself.

**Edited to add: That was "overeggstended" that was asking...I think that was their name.
Help them if you can.

I have relapsing/remissing MS and don't drive. The fact that I can catch bus right in front of my house and still have chickens was a major selling point of moving 3000 miles to be here! So, unless I find some other chicken fanciers in or around Aberdeen and Hoquiam, I won't be able to make it to the fairs or shows easily, I am afraid. I just got back from fighting with city hall about permits for flood damage repairs, I still would like to fight them for a couple Cayuga ducks for slug control and mowing duties. Lol

The Hammies should work well this year and perhaps I can find some PendWhatevers (lol) to add later. I am just thrilled to have chickens again! I attacked bushes with a chainsaw past weekend, this weekend I am starting the coop if the weather holds!
I have had Cayugas, Muscovies & Pekings, and of all, the Muskovies are SILENT.
They also fly, so you'd have to trim wings.
The other 2 breeds can make some racket especially hen Peking, which can be heard for a long, long ways !
All are really great lawn mowers, though !
If you are in the Hoquiam area, try contacting 'Weavagarden'.she is there also, right downtown, and has had her day in court, so she may be able to give you some tips.
If I misspelled her call name, I apologize now.
try and find her.
And keep me posted.
I can help look for birds for you too, I am know far & wide for being an "Enabler"

Got to get entries in for Monroe very soon. I forgot envelopes or I'd be getting mine out in the morning. This is my first time entering.

I am not entering this time, maybe the fall show.
The garden, gall bladder & everything else going on right now, has told me to cool it until fall.
Love to see you thought !
I am not sure we are going...have to waite & see......

Ok question on guinea fowl. How much is the garden variety adult helmet heads worth?

I have one neighbor that doesn't like them. I thought it was funny... but her dog was chasing my guineas. The guineas turned on the Pomeranian and cornered it while making the alarm noise. They didn't attack it but the dog won't leave his lot now! I was crying I laughed so hard but I don't need a war with the neighbors. Since we aren't that fond of them we will eat them or sell them, depending on the price. We like the chickens and turkeys better.

All 4

I think all of these colored ones are boys

I LOVE Guineas, but alas, Einstein said NO WAY he hated them, and while he made no attempt to harm them, they knew he hated them and so the flock would follow him around alarming !
Drove the man NUTZ!!!!!!!

I sold them, and asked a normal $10 a piece, buut be advised, Guineas do not relocate well at all...they have to be caged, or penned for quite a while in their new home until they can be released, other wise they forever look for their first home.
They are awesome birds !
The Pomeranian story is a HOOT !!!!!!!!!!
