Quick question, BYC buddies:

I'm looking for some vining plants to plant around my run. Ideally, I'd love the vines to completely take over the run. They would have to be safe for chickens to ingest, should they try to eat them.

Pretty flowers are a plus, but not necessary.

What kind of vine plants thrive in this climate?

Thanks!

Runner beans! Love this climate, cheap and easy, pretty as heck, annuals (grow a foot in a week!), and totally non-toxic!

Forgot to mention that runner beans are yummy! When young, they are like green beans. Then they can be stripped like French cut beans, and finally, when mature... they are very pretty dry shelling beans! They make wonderful soup all winter!

I get mine from Baker Creek (rareseeds.com) but Territorial and Adaptive seeds both carry a few varieties as well and are local.

And you can eat them!

Leg color has alot to do with the feather color of the bird, as well.
My Blue Ams has blue/slate legs.
In some breeds, skin and leg color is essential to identity of the breed.
I guess you'd say that mine is a wheaten color. She is getting her feathers in now, so she is still turning but it looks that she will be varying shades of brown all over. And like I said she has a grayish green color of legs. I keep checking to see if the green turns to a bluish color but not yet.

my popbottle garden container this is what I got my strawberrys in december out of :)

strawberrys coming up and recovering from deer munching last fall..these are the strawberrys in the raised bed that over wintered......

artichokes doing great, peppers all coming up except aniehm

Ok. Three bags with comfrey in them and four pots of peppermint. Both will take over.

Peppermint is worst in my experience. I started a few strands that Mom just pulled from the ground two years ago. It's now spread to about a 2x5 area
