Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I was unaware that Del's had a six chick minimum. I guess that's cause I went there with that amount of chicks in mind and had to stop myself from buying more. I guess we're set for the moment and I'll have to be content with these gals as our default learning flock. We read that hen or chickens can live out their lives, if allowed, to be at least ten years old.

Feed store in Aberdeen (hometown feed) will let you buy, or even special order, just one if you wish!

Having her 18'x18' garage demolished... And I ain't too happy about it!
Was it falling apart ?
We still need to do a pole barn here for my retired Master Mechanic MrGoodwrench "Einstein" who has rollaway tool BOXES parked all over at friend's homes.
Always fun when we need a tool...like a wheel puller...................almost easier to go to the parts house & buy another one............

Oh dear you are going to have a peepulation explosion as bad as I have here !
ALL AT ONCE !!

Yes we are but its worth it even if it's for a short period- babies that we don't keep will be available for sale, I need a bunch but if they all make it I dont need quite that many even tho I wouldn't mind but space is limited lol

I LOVE Calico & Millie Bantam Cochins !

But alas.....with our mud, it didn't work.
We had Lemon Blue (LF) Cochins too...and after a few days in this weather (and our clay) the birds had DINGLE BALLS of clay the size of golf balls, all over their feet, legs & nether regions.

They clacked together when the birds ran/walked.

I had to clip all their fluff & feets, toes, legs..................................:(

Yet another reason I went with the hammies... Clean feet!

The good thing is (most of the time) you can ask to order certain chicks.
Like if you want partridge cochin for example, they (the feed stores) can include that in their next shipment.
Bad news is, quite often the chicks arrive & the employees (having limited knowledge of poultry) usually just sell them, and have no idea which are which.
happened to me a few times.
Now I order eggs & hatch my own.

Not really... but code enforcement guy is a jerk and landlord is a wuss. I was sick of fighting them BOTH. Now I get a freaking 8x8 that I need to get a washer, dryer, hot water heater, chest freezer, and 3 doors in (front, back, and into kitchen). Where I am to put all the stuff I had in it (bike, lawnmower, 4 foot lockers of tools, wood, garden stuff) is my problem. So... looks like I need to build a shed, chicken coop, and greenhouse (have the glass!) in the next month. Oh... and have no extra money for the materials. FML!

Have materials for coop actually.

Just wanted to post a picture since I've been finding discarded shells from robin hatchlings the last week. There are a lot nests in the hawthorn trees this year. Probably because the cats can't get up there.

Two of my wheaten ameraucana eggs with the little robin shell. Comparing the picture to the actual eggs, it look's pretty close to real color.

I can hear the rooster that is a quarter mile away. Apparently so can my boys as it gets them to crowing as well. My husband says he can only hear it if it's a really good day with little traffic and that I'm just a weirdo with good ears, though. I'm not near enough anyone to care here.
