Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Although I'm sure you're right about the presence of a roo, I can't.

If I understand you coeectly, you believe this particular hen will always be excessively brutal to new chicks? That's unfortunate. The other 3 hens are so much more accepting of them. They peck but don't brutalize.
You could put the mean hen in a dog crate with water and food for a couple days.

Carolyn, I thought you had males, but anyways, I agree with jbkirk, plan B would be to isolate (and humiliate) the mean hen.
Make sure she is close enough to see her flock but unable to get at them.
After a week or so, I'd let her out & watch.
She may have learned her lesson.
If she returns to beating up the newbies, crate her again.

Mother's day Feast I am working on.....

Cracked Crab, mussels, clams in garlic butter & Olive Oil, this gets stirred to mariate every so often, and served cool along with seared London Broil and Coleslaw, my sis is making a dessert fruit pizza....it is sugar cookie crust, a bit of icing and sliced fruit all over...time consuming but awesome.
Einstein making his signature Deviled Eggs, always a favorite.

Happy Mother's day to all you Mothers & Grand Mother's out there !

I have used dog ex-pens to separate my new chicks from the older birds for a month or so before adding them to the flock. I put screw eyes in the walls and use snaps to attach the ex-pens to the screw eyes. There are still arguments and scrapping but it does help.

I have a young hen who is a brutal girl. She definitely needs the time out corner. I have a wire rabbit cage that she can live in and will be giving it a try to see if it helps her demeanor.

Lyn says she has lav orp...so I am working on that......@jbkirk wanted some I think ???

Here they come, the tent caterpillars...!
Has anyone been able to get their chickens to eat the hairy buggers, or is it something they just shouldn't eat?
