Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

One of my new girls started showing signs of coccidiosis on Friday. We started Sulmet on Saturday, but then switched to Corid yesterday. She's looking much better this morning! I'm hoping we're moving past it. Anyone know how long to keep putting Corid in their water?
If you give them MEDICATED FEED, then they do not need it in their water, you only give Amprolium either in the water, or the feed, otherwise, you are overmedicating.

Amprolium is the medication that kills off the "cocci"........it is found in many forms, one of which is the name brand "Corid"
Corid is Amprolium, and there is amny more.
And the Medication in "Medicated Feed" IS AMPROLIUM......so please make sure you are doing either or...and not giving BOTH MEDICATED FEED AND MEDICATED WATER............thanks.

Hiya, are there any (non-feather footed) general breeders in Western Washington? Most places I've found selling birds have been the feed stores (I assume they are from hatcheries?). I've found a few juvenile birds for sale here and there on craigslist, but haven't been able to find actual breeder websites or anything like that. I remember seeing quite a few varieties at the State Fair last year, but maybe they were mail orders? Just trying to get an idea of what local birds are out there.
I am here in Raymond, and we are just about done breeding & hatching except the color projects.

What are you looking for ?

PECKING AT PASTY BUTT, PLEASE HELP.

I have five chicks around two weeks old, three Egyptian Fayoumis and two silver spangled Hamburg. When we brought the Hamburgs home from the feed store about a week ago, we quickly realized one of them had a touch of pasty butt, so we took care of that. A couple days later I noticed she had some poop stuck in her fluff just below the cloaca, so I pulled it off, but that was a mistake because it pulled off a tiny bit of skin, and the Fayoumis started pecking at it. So I isolated her for about 20 minutes, and they seemed to stop pecking at that point. I figured it would heal on its own. Only problem is, poop keeps getting stuck to the spot, and it's still getting pecked some. The Fayoumis will bite down on the dried poop and actually pull her backwards! There's no sign of redness or swelling, just a wee bit of scabbing and some stubborn poop embedded in her butt fluff that I can't seem to soak off with warm compresses. Her demeanor seems fine, just as peppy as the rest, though she is definitely at the bottom of the pecking order (the other Hamburg is on top). Should I keep soaking her butt or just see if things resolve on their own? I should clarify that her cloaca looks fine. The problem spot is just below that. It's like a quarter the size of a pencil eraser.
Always soften the poopy butt in warm water, slowly, and surely the past will fall off as you help it wash off, never pick it off like it is a scab, or you will tear off that thin delicate skin...
If you DO have a tear or cut in the skin, you can use blu cote to "hide" the redness and thus prevent other chicks from pecking at the spot...
Any problems below the vent would be the belly button, and that better be healed, otherwise disease (sepsis) can enter the abdomen.
We use iodine on the belly buttons that do not look healed.
It kills germs and helps dry the button shut.

I hold them sideways and run just their butts under the faucet and warm water until it softens. Usually leaves the fluff that way. They get a good dry and back to the warmth or under mama after.

If it's being pecked on that spot, Blukote dyes everything purple and stops the pecking as well as promoting healing. Poop would stick to the scab so just keep an eye on that but don't worry much.

Chicks are amazingly resilient.

Exactly !

I haven't posted here in a long time! I am in NE Seattle and I'm looking for two new pullets or young layers. I want at least one of them to be a red sexlink. I've lost two red sexlinks to raccoons (at different times) and I miss them. I'm open to the idea of two RSLs, or one of another breed or cross. I would like both to be from the same flock though. An olive egger would be nice, or bright blue layer.

They will be added to my existing flock of 9: 4 year old white leghorn, her two EE daughters, 2 years old; and 6 hens that were hatched last summer (RIR, 3 EEs, bielefelder, white plymouth rock)

I personally don't want to travel too far from NE Seattle to buy these. Carolyn Farmer has offered to help transport from the Bremerton area on the 30th if anyone has something in that area.

Thanks!
Hey woman how the heck are you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????

SO good to see you back !!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband works at Red Wind Casino and I'm a substitute for Head Start so I can work at pretty much any center if it's near by. We're looking towards Yelm, Olympia, Lacey, Rainier, Roy, ect. Pretty much anywhere within a 30 minute drive to his work.
