Regarding the depluming mites, I haven't seen a lot of preening or feather pecking so I'm not really sure if it's the issue on my girl or not. But seeing a band of skin on her neck that's nearly without feathers, just some stubs, seems very odd. Her bum has a big bare spot too below the fluff, but it's not visible unless I pick her up for an exam. Last week she layed her egg outside in the pen, and today she dropped one from the perch in the wee hours of the morning. Neither of these behaviors has ever happened with HER before. It could be a molt progressing slowly as she is 17 months old now and never had an adult molt. Fingers crossed. I don't want a hen with an oviduct issue. I hate those. Ideas?

By the way, I saw @elizmartin in your show pictures. I missed going to this one so seeing the pics was nice. Did @Hinotori make it?

Hello again everyone! I am -finally- officially a home owner! Still moving in but when we are done we are going to work on getting set up for next year. Chickens, goats, the sky is the limit! Well, there may be a limit before then but I will figure that out. Any pierce county peeps I could potentially borrow some goats from to mow my backyard for a day or two?

Goats are browsers, not grazers. They are great at clearing brush, but won't touch the lawn. You need sheep for grazing.

You've had a hectic year so far! I hope it works out. It's good he's working again so soon but it sure would be nice if he could stay home at the same time.

Started this two Sundays ago. Rain, baseball tournaments, and illness followed. Finally finished up this project in between rain/hail showers.
Now I'm praying I get the deck railing repainted before the kids are out of school for the summer, Thursday...

We finally hatched some Quechua/Easter Egger (hatchery Ameraucana) chicks! They are so beautiful and now I just have to hope I have mostly pullets.

I do believe my barred hens are going into molt more feathers but
there are only 5 now seeing just 3 eggs in a day, hoping my first EE
pullets and the first barred pullets I still have will step up so
I do not have to go buy eggs
