I want to put some sort of cover over my run. The birds will be locked in the coop at night so it's basically just to keep them in my six-foot fence and to keep the wild birds out. Should I use bird netting or deer netting? Or something else? Three sides of the run will be chain-link fence.

Bird netting should be sufficient to keep birds in as long as it is high enough up.

You said they are a project, are you making a new breed or continuing with an established one? Sorry for the stupid questions I'm just interested. I don't want to breed any chickens but I'm interested in other peoples projects.

Sort of both. I started my project crossing White Leghorns (for production) to Black Ameraucana birds then selecting birds to get back to Black feathering/shanks and blue eggs/pea combs. Someone at the University of Arkansas was doing the same thing already that I didn't know about and for the same purpose! I found out ~1 year into my breeding project I think? I have picked up some University of Arkansas hatching eggs to add the blue diluting gene back to my birds so now I have my project girls + U of A Blue cockerel covering them. Long story short, they are most like U of A blues which isn't a "pure breed" because of how small the breeding population is.

well my greenhouse has one cover now not split in two it is all 6ml plastic I
broke down paid 60.00 at home depot for a 10 x100 of 6ml cut it in 3rds
taping it all before we put it up 30x30 covers it totally looks great and is
going to be very busy...

OK, just regular old bird netting or does it come in different forms? I looked at Home Depot today but couldn't find any. There was a lot of things that said poultry fencing, either metal or plastic chicken wire but I didn't think that was the same stuff.

I will have to keep this in mind.  I have had at least 1 rooster since moving to my home before the re-wrote the rule about roosters.  That should mean that I am grandfathered into the old code as well?  Or is that status different based on which city you are in?

Basically, if you already own property and then a city decides to restrict ownership of that property in some way, you do not have to get rid of your property that was legal before the code. You can no longer bring in that property if it was not already there because it would be banned. Say you had a classic car you were restoring and the city banned classic cars in city limits, you have not broken any law by having a classic and you can keep your classic but no one else would be allowed to own a classic car under the new regulation. The government is prohibited from "taking" property that way.

Also, if you have used your property for a specific purpose and the city decides not to allow the use of private property in that manner and bans it, you can continue to use your property as you always have but no one else can start the use of their property in that manner. Say you have an in-home daycare and the city bans in-home daycares, you will not have to lose your daycare but no one can start a daycare after the regulation is adopted.

There are cities that have banned pitbulls from living in city limits but Animal Control does not have a ban on dog breeds so they would not take away your pitbull no matter how many complained that they don't like pitbulls. The city can tell you to get rid of it but they have no authority to take it away. Once the dog dies you can not replace it but you can continue to keep your pet legally even though thete is now a code against it. The city can threaten to fine you or retaliate in other ways so you may decide not to keep your pitbull but legally they can't impose consequences for their actions that made you somehow guilty for something that was not prohibited already. If your pitbull bites someone, then Animal Control will require you to destroy the dog but that is true where there are no restrictions as well. As long as your pitbull is not a safety threat, you can keep it because you had it before the code was changed to no longer allow it.

There are alot of roosters that are grandfathered in cities all overthat decided to ban them due to their crowing. If you had your rooster before the ban, he can live out his life on your property but you can not bring in a new rooster. That is why we have more roosters than we really want, we had to keep them or lose the right to have them. We can still hatch and raise baby birds to maturity because they don't count but we can not bring in new adults so we kept more hens than we wanted as well. We had older hens that we are not replacing but we also kept young hens that we would have sold as pullets but had to keep or lose the right to have them.

but got smart we have active moles we are hoping our outdoor cats
will solve in the meantime darn things bring up good black soil
I filled a dozen pots all from mole hills
