so what do you think doesnt seem to scream cockerel to me
Female. And looks like she's molted her tail. Could be why she was off by herself. Molting makes them irritable. And the crowing is likely because she just felt like it. But definitely female. It is not uncommon for mature, dominant hens to crow.

To me it looks too dark on the barring to be male. I don't see anything that looks like hackles either. How old? Close to POL?

So you believe her to be her glad I did off her yet

I forgot why you can't have any cockerels. If they are friendly and sweet, I keep them. If they piss me off, they are the chicken in chicken & dumplings.

Actually, I had two of the prettiest cockerels this spring that I ended up giving to a co-workers dad for his farm. A couple of weeks later, my co-worker came back apologizing stating her dad thanked me and those dudes were tasty. She said they were mean. I told them they were mean to me when I wore my Seahawk green barn boots and it was ok to eat them if they wanted. I have a couple of other ones that are just nice and sweet. They aren't going to the 'other' farm.

It is not that I cannot have a cockerel it is more that I have one
and that is enough as my main thing here is to have eggs for
us and few others

My silkie cockerel decided that this would be the morning he chose to crow his head off. I was hoping he'd stay quiet a little bit longer; we can't have them in Lakewood.

Well, you can always claim not to know which one it is for a while. Most code enforcers are clueless with silkies. You could at least buy some time that way.

Most people in general are clueless with silkies. I've seen cockerels passed off as pullets at swaps. I even warned one buyer but they told me the seller swore it was a (teen) pullet. This was a partridge silkie, the color I keep and the feather coloring coming in was wrong for a female.

Between 6 and 8 weeks I can start sexing my chicks by the slight comb and wattle color and development. If I think it's a female at that stage it is. If I think it's male I'm about 50% right.

We've known he was a rooster for a while because of his comb developement vs. our hen's, but decided to keep him until he started crowing. We just want to be nice to our neighbors, to be honest. We have enough chickens (our 16 or so plus around 10 of our friend's poultry) that we could get in real trouble if they decided to report us, so we don't want to risk it. He's adorable, but just too loud.
