Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I have a question for everybody. Has anybody tried Union point poultry feed? Would your chickens eat it? I have been trying to get my chickens to eat it for A while now and they just don't like it. I have tried it dry, wet, and very mean textures of fermented. They eat it if they're absolutely starving but otherwise they just don't touch it. Has anybody else had this problem?
On paper it looks like good feed, and the customer service is great. But if they won't eat it I guess all that doesn't really matter.

Haven't heard of it. My birds get rather picky on some of the feeds as well, though. So much so that if one group (usually where the babies are at that point) has what they think is a better food, they will all try and sneak in that pen and steal it.

My first time killing a rabbit was terrible because I tried hitting it in the back of the head and it did not work well. I learned to break their necks efficiently and that worked for me but we raised New Zealand Whites to eat and other breeds to supply pet stores so I only handled the pets and tried not to get attached to the meat rabbits.

With any meat I raise I prefer breeds that look plain (not cute enough to name) and then I think of them as meat rather than a companion in order to separate it in my mind. Once they are cleaned and in the freezer, it is easy enough to cook and eat them. I sort of have to raise them in groups and butcher them in groups while reminding myself that I am giving them a good life in return for them sustaining my life. As long as the kill is fast and humane so they don't suffer my goal is for them to die before they know they are being killed. Then their soul is free of pain and trauma and I say a prayer of thanks.

I used to raise all my own meat but my daughter is too emotionally sensitive to eat anything she cares for so we don't butcher anymore in order to spare her from the bad feelings. We need protein in our diet but we don't eat meat every day because of the cost. I have always gone heavier on the grains and light on the meat so we eat like hunters and gatherers even if we shop for our groceries.

I wish we had a place locally where you could raise say chickens or rabbits goats etc. and then take them in and have those people process them. There are people that come out for cattle and sheep and I am assuming goats. But not for smaller things like chickens or rabbits. I could raise them to eat if someone else could do the dirty work. What can I say, I know it is a copout but oh well.

If I could find someone that would come all the way out here to do pigs and goats, I would be raising those as well. I'm pretty much limited to what I can manage to process on my own. That rules out anything over 50 pounds.
