I don't have any right now to snap a picture of the tag. I tend to get whatever is cheapest with the highest protein that they will eat. That's Flockraiser at Coastal at the moment since we get a discount there. Payback pellets are smaller than other brands and make the chickens happier. The crumbles they are getting right now make them happiest.


I'm not sure if Payback has an organic line.

My birds LOVE the payback pellets..............the small size of the pellets also......the feed is higher than Flockraiser in protein....(actually I think it is about the same as Flockraiser).and it is $12 a FIFTY POUND bag...not 40...............I love the payback.

I fed Flcokraiser for years to my Jersey Giants & Buckeyes as they are big bones slow growers..............English Orps too.....
But you can harm their kidneys & cause goutiness if the birds are given too high a protein far after their growth period........be careful.
Someone told me it harms the males worse than females, with both gout and a sort of kidney calcification or some such.
In any event, they do not need so high a protein after they are grown, yet regular layer feeds (except payback) is so low in protein I really think you need something more, just not as high as Flockraiser.
Flockraiser (and Payback grow on, which is what you should use after they are chicks) both have excellent protein for growth...I think the payback grow on is 24%....I'll have to grab the tags...

Breeding stock is named and are easy to tell apart. They get pretty spoiled.

Kits all pretty much look the same, either solid white or brown. Impossible to be sure of who is who. None get names.

Exactly.mine were all registered California Meat Buns, and all breeding stock was named with the bun last name.....such as Sweety Buns, and Sugar Buns, and Ophelia Buns....LOL OH and Patty Buns and Spanky Buns....

These were their registered names !!

This is 6 mo old Ophelia Buns, Jessica's doeling.

Flockraiser is 20% which seems about the magic number for my EE girls to not pluck and eat each others feathers. The Payback all flock is 19% if I remember right and works as well. It's $19something for me to buy the Payback around here, and $16something for the Flockraiser at Coastal. This is why we do stock up when we go past Bimart.

I did try the very expensive Scratch and Peck back when I only had a few girls. For me, egg laying actually ceased (during late spring peak) and the girls were stripping each other bare. I was doing my own scratch mix then and when I ran out of feed that was what they got until I got more. They improved on my scratch mix, but it took putting them on the Flockraiser to fix them fully. I should do that scratch mix again. Everything that wasn't EE did well on it. Had 14 or 16 things in it. I've learned that giving peanuts regularly isn't good though. But the girls fight over them first.

I don't ferment since no room in house or place for it outside. I'm sure the girls would love it. They love soaked pellets

Rabbits are so cute. I had some when I was a kid, the first ones we got were white with the black ears and feet and tail. The second one I got was black with one little white splotch on his chest, and the third one I got was white with black yellow and brown spots. Their names were scamper, scan for the second, and scamper the third. Hey I was a kid what do you expect. And I like to the name scamper. I didn't have good luck with them however. The first one escaped out of its pen and ate some grass that had pesticides on it. The second one got in a fight with a male rabbit that came from a block and a half away to fight with him. And the third one I think was killed by a cat. So I gave up on rabbits.

My Easter egg or chicken is not eating well. I sat and watched her in the yard for a while and unlike the other chickens she is not constantly packing at the ground. Last night at bedtime I checked and her crop was basically empty. She is mingling with the other chickens although she still wants to lay in the nest box at night but when I put her back on the roost she stays there. It seems like most of her feather loss is on her chest and tummy. Am I missing something? I can't see well so I have no idea if she has any little bugs crawling on her. Should I put her back in her own little dog crate for a while like I did last week? She seemed to perk up and eat and drink then after a day or so. Having it in the kitchen is a pain in the butt, but maybe I could put the dog crate in the coop. I just don't want her to get so weak that there's no turn around.

Maybe in the crate in the coop so she can see everyone but be comfortable. I have a lamb tube and baby parrot food that I will tube the birds with if they are eating, but not a lot.

If they aren't eating at all, something else might be wrong. It doesn't sound like broody behavior. Is her crop squishy? I've had sour crop issues and they don't like to eat much with that.

This is what I feed BABIES...not always medicated, I can add Amprolium to their water, and often do, in which case I feed Unmedicated Chick stater so they do not get overdosed with Amprolium.

Paybacl layer pellets from Bi-Mart...my birds prefer, but they will eat DuMor from Tractor supply...



So I use the regular chick feed, then the 24% chick feed, then go to layer ration after the growth spurt.
I add scratch from Payback, which has 5 or 6 different grains, and I cannot find a tag.....it has 5 grains and NO SOYBEAN OIL !
