Mocha and latte are just WFC hatchery chicks, but my mom got to get them before they were even set up in the brooders lol. Latte is all white, and mocha is ally darker than the others.

Very nice. Are they protesting the cold?

So BI tell me some look like my Barred rock? they are hatchery birds here
my EE come from junbuggena here and the cockerel I have Blue aka Stew is a f-1
olive, he was from folks not far from me.. I bought 4 OE from them and 3 turned
out cockerels but he drew the straw being a flashier cockerel
biggest issue I have is the water cups every time it gets cold the birds do not seem to
really care

With the freezing temperatures, are water was mostly frozen at night. We don't use watering cups. They have the choice between a large pan and a 2 gallon waterer. We just had to break the ice in the morning. Pip and squeak are both hatchery birds from ferndale WFC. Our olive eggers are from a backyard breeder up in mount Vernon.

Hey I am in Mount Vernon as well!

Quote: I just keep one cockerel wasn't going to even do that but like allot here chicken math took control
and in came Blue and a incubator much to my BF's chagrin.. I recently bought a plucker of very old type
but fully functional

down here in Morton 10 miles away we have a old style Del's farm supply
they like are the others where bought by Tractor Supply but have not been told if they
will continue until the lease on their building run's out.. I will be very disappointed if the get get closed

Perhaps @Chickielady might offer some info
I have had so many ancient poultrymen tell me over & over that raising the humidity at lockdown is too little too late.
They insist it needs to be higher & from the very beginning, after all, does a hen crank up her humidity at the last few days ?
Nope.

I run all my incubators on a wet bulb system, but it translates to % as 45-50%..consistantly, and I do not raise it at the last few days and I open the incubator door once, on the 10th day, to candle & delete duds.

That's all.
Opening & taking eggs out is robbing them of not only warmth, but humidity escapes out of the incubator & takes a while to build heat & humidity back up to optimum amounts.
While opening the door & candling once is not too disruptive on your embryos, opening & handlng every day is far too disruptive.

And remember all incubators have their own instructions.
If you bought one from someone & have no instructions, often the instructions can be found on the manufacturer's web site.

I didnt raise the humidity this time even though the manual said to on day 18 when I reread it. I'm afraid to mess with anything that has been working well.

It does a daily cool down period to simulate a hen getting off the nest. You can adjust or turn that off. The humidity pump kicks on at 44%
