Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Our Great Pyrenees mama is inside with her 12 pups so we can keep an eye on them and make sure they are all getting a chance to nurse. This is the second tome she got into my bird room and killed my chicks so I am starting over again! I just got a taller fence that I did not think she would climb over since she does not get over them outside but she went over this one while I was meeting with a quail buyer. I have been so careful about closing the door to the bird room even though it gets too hot with all the incubators running and the warmers for baby chicks.

Fortunately she did not get my chicks that hatched the past couple days, just the older chicks. She also left the stacks of eggs alone since they are in cartons but I also had clear eggs and quitters (due to warm weather and the door being closed) that I pulled out just before I left. Thankfully she left the incubators alone since they are all full of developing eggs. We are going to have to put her outside anytime someone is not home watching her. My husband was actually home taking a nap when she killed the chicks this time while I slept through it the first time.

Now I have to get a shower and change for a benefit auction at the wildlife rescue where I volunteer. I knew raising puppies was going to be expensive but I was not expecting to lose all my feed money too. My husband is not working so it is up to me to pay for everything.
tough to pay for all on one income sorry about the loss of chick's never good... hard to crate her with pups

Well it took 4 days to cool off the broody hen she looked fine after 24 hrs in the elevated cage but then she went right back to puffing up and broody clucks just put her back in the run about an hour ago. To bad I have so many chicken right now she would have done a good job, last fall she raised a brood kicked them out after 3 weeks and layed an egg and hasn't stopped since, what a difference in those chicks she raised compared to other chickens her brood are much more aggressive in the flock and moved into the higher status pecking order very quickly.

then what gives ? 13 eggs out of 18 birds
how is the light in your inner coop? I added windows and had a big jump in egg laying, nearly every hen lays an egg a day now. light is a big driver in ovulation, particularly in northern areas with long dark winter days and cloudy spring mornings.

I originally posted this in another section but it was suggested that I try in here. My son was building a rock structure next to the river while we were camping this weekend and a gosling came running up to him. We searched up and down the river for other geese and birds and found none. The river was high and quite fast so we think it must have been swept down river from its family. It is fuzzy, no feathers starting so must be very young. Don't want to keep it just want to find someone or someplace who will take it in. Located in Eastern Washington in lower Grant County. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or any takers?

So now you know some of what I have been doing lately...............
Annie is the follower...scared & hides behind Cowgirl.
We drove to Yakima to get them from @pettec63 and ever since, have spent time wooing them, as they were quite frightened of any other humans besides their Mommie Julie.

They are half registered Boer, half Boer half Nubian, a mix I like.
Once they are used to us, they can be let out into the area with no electric fencing, providing they stay off the car, LOL
