Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Weeble can't be away from Markie for one second; she is like glue. LOL I will have to keep him, just for her. She has a serious crush. They come sit by the window when it is time for bed. I scoop them up and put them in a pen inside the coop. I am still worried about them being with the hens cooped up until I get up in the morning. They are fine all day in the fenced in "chicken zone" and stay close to the house when it is "free range anywhere" time. markie-weeble-4-71817.JPG markie-weeble-71817.JPG weeble-loves-markie.JPG

I've finally gotten the gumption to buy a nipple water bucket to hang in the coop. I was a bit worried the transition but after just a few times showing them, they figured it out quick... no more messy waterers!

I don't think I will ever stop being startled by "Dead Chicken Syndrome". You know, you go out to the chicken yard and there is a carcass seemingly rotting in the sun, with a leg sticking out, wing partially unfolded, head up against a rock with a twisted-looking neck. When you are just about ready to start screaming, they open their eyes. Just sunbathing. Gets me every time!

Well, the flock is 3 birds fewer. And 11 pounds of meat resting in the fridge. The prolapsed hen was in really bad shape. Being unable to poo normally, her fecal matter had backed up into her crop. Poor thing. She would have been dead by tomorrow morning anyways.
