Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Yep. He was so big, he couldn't balance and hit the right spot without ripping out a bunch of feathers everytime. His size wouldn't have been an issue if he could have managed a bit of grace, but he was just so clumsy and he just never did develop good technique. I expect rough handling of the hens when a cockerel is young and just trying to figure it all out. But at nearly 2 years of age, he was still just as clumsy as a 5 month old.

Dealt with my behemoth of a rooster today. He was just too big, poor fertility rates and was tearing up the backs of all the layers. Dressed out at 8.8 pounds. It was like processing a small turkey rather than a chicken.
Now that is good sized bird birdi.gif chick.gif hysterical.gif

Was that the one you put up a picture of like the one I have if so same story here he is just to big. I have a couple of big light brahma hens and he just grabs them like they are nothing and throughs them to the ground and breeds them, he must go away. To bad to as he is not at all aggressive towards me.

My two ameracauna boys are pretty gentle and there has been no broken feathers on anyone .. am going to have to put a girl down was all concerned of wry neck now I get told that Moose grabbed a chicken ya he broke her neck just not fully now she moves in circles and the others are picking the hell out of her

Oops that's to bad about your girl, Wally doesn't bother the chickens at all if fact he has become there protector. He took off after a hawk yesterday and chased it growling and barking all the way to my property line about 300 yards.

I did not know it happened saw this hen all of a sudden wry style neck but why? never had a disease go through my flock why now BF says well it was out Moose grabbed it brought it to me ?? he did not want to beat the dog as it brought the bird to him he thought she was alright no obvious wounds Labrador has a soft mouth thought it was all good

My big girls found a dandelion today too. They ate it.

Im terrified for my fruit trees. It's warm enough to break dormancy and if it snaps cold again, no fruit
