Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

A Few weeks ago someone sent me a youtube video of a woman who posted about her livestock bucket freezing in single digit weather.
She put a plastic water bottle of (I think) ACV in the water bucket, and it kept the water in the bucket from freezing.
Dang if I can find that video now !

That’s a good idea I might give that a try. I have some waterers out in the main run one is heated but I have some others in grow out pens in the barn, normally barn ones are ok but it’s been around 12 in the mornings and they froze solid. Birds were fine though. Thanks for the tip
This woman had like 2 or 3 gallon big black rubber buckets for her horses, and a FULL water bottle of salt water in it.
Not ACV.
I think it worked as it kept moving around in the water.
And the salt would keep it from freezing........just no mention of how much salt.
Maybe I can find it online somewhere.

Hello Eveyone,
New here from coulee city. I look forward to learning many things. Joined becAuse I’m new to the chicken thing and I will be getting several Rhode Island Red chicks and I want to be fully prepared to raise them and so far from what I have read this is the best site for information on everything. If anybody here knows the limit on chickens that’s up to date please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and hello in advance.

Welcome and don't be a stranger !
:welcome
Limits on chickens within the city I do not know, but welcome anyways !

here is one web study:

and another:

Now my chickens have 1/2 gallon square 'buckets' on the walls in the coops, BUT, 1 gallon water pails outdoors, so, I would scale down the study these folks did, so I would add a tiny bottle of salt water to my 1 gallon water bucket outdoors and see if it works!
We do have a 30 gallon tank for the goats....and a heater in it which uses alot of power...so maybe try salt bottles in there also, as long as the goats don't decided to eat water bottles..............:hmm

nice to know my water buckets are in the coops Richard said he has had to knock ice from the one dog bowl out at the barn nothing but a small crust in the morning but the coops have stayed good the one clost to the door had a small crust on it the other day I notice but broke it up
