Hi! I hope this is the right place to post this - if it isn't my apologies and I'd appreciate any tips on where I should post instead!

We're not living in Washington but it looks like we will be moving there soon so I'm trying to do my research now. My husband is considering a job near Seattle.

My problem is that where we are currently there is no limit to chicken math...I have a flock of 26 including a few roosters (though I may soon be making some choices as to which boys to keep). I know that roosters aren't allowed in Seattle and that I'm limited to a small number of hens.

Wondering if there are any ways around that...either different areas nearby to look at instead or if there are some unincorporated areas (that's where we are now in California), or urban farm scenarios I could research. Surely some people (like breeders) must be keeping roosters some how in the area, right? I'm open to any tips or advice you might have to share!!

(And I've read up on the requirements for bringing poultry into the state).

Your in a great place to post are you wanting to buy or rent? how long a commute you willing to make and have you looked at prices from homes out here recently ?

Thank you!! Nice to see a a familiar (chicken) face respond! What is considered the country there? Is there someplace I can check online to see maps? I see lots of different smaller cities so is it just space in between or completely outside of all of that? I've never been there at all before!

So far as commute, my husband would be working in Kent. He's willing to commute a fair distance for an amazing home. I stay at home with our two kids (ages 2&3). My son is in a full day special program, so we'd be looking for something similar there for him too.

We're used to bad commutes and high costs of living; in Canada we lived in Toronto for fifteen years, and we're currently living in San Jose. I've been looking online at houses and thinking we can live like kings in the Seattle area compared to here!!!

Actually as he will work in Kent look towards Eatonville, Auburn or Sumner even Lake Taps it is a man made lake and dry half the year so view of tree stumps

Hmmm...so looking into those areas the regulations seem more restrictive than in Seattle actually! I'd only be legally allowed to keep 3-6 chickens!

Also, I don't think we want to stray too far away from the city either...we consider ourselves city people, but we love having it both ways...so right now we live in an acre up in the foothills, but it's only about a ten minute drive to the nearest everything and we have a view of the whole city and region. I think ideally we wouldn't be much further from city life than a 30 or so minute drive. Is that possible? I must sound like a total diva, wanting it all!
