Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My husband hates that my dogs know hand signals. Well mainly because I have one for them to go jump on him when he's in his chair. Mostly just use it with Zeus.

Hubby has sleep apnea and sleeps in his chair for his back. If he stops breathing for more than a few seconds, I send Zeus on him to disrupt his sleep pattern. When he resettles, he usually sleeps fine. Zeus is so used to the hop up then down, he'll do it even if I'm not in the room. Hubby hasn't had much issue with it anymore as he's lost some weight.

The dogs have been taught that if it's something to bark at, they need to come stand beside me and protect me. They don't bark at the deer and elk, just chase them off the property.

I think allot folks do not know how to train a dog to hand signal.
Bark, bark, bark is the doorbell here

Ha that's my doorbell too, but as my actual doorbell doesn't usually work, the dogs are 100% better at it.

I train my dogs to both verbal and visual cues (I use both, one or the other, and make them earn their breakfast that way) but of course some are more responsive to one over the other.

Our house never had a doorbell. The dogs will bark of they hear someone in the drive, except for our trucks or the mail truck. They recognize the sound of those vehicles.

The schipperke I had would bark if she heard anything suspicious. Of course she did it while hiding behind one of us. She wouldn't bark if home alone. She would hide, though. We lived in an apartment most of her life so she wasn't trustworthy off leash. Anything small that moved she wanted to kill so she had to be kept away from the chickens. She was going senile by the time I got them, that I couldn't train her. Plus she was mostly deaf and half blind at that time.

Noe it is just bird dogs "yes I will carry the bird for you, yes I will, Iwill cary the bird..
Morning just had to say that Moose was super gentle but the bird was not thrilled I could not even scold him he brought it right to me :clap

Hazel Grace is just now coming into her protective mode. Ever since she was a puppy, she had been the most terrified out of her siblings. Before, everything terrified her but now she's learning from her parents to be on guard to protect us.
She will even bark at the neighbor's brats when they throw rocks over the fence at our flock. And yes, we've talked to the neighbor many times about the rocks but the brats still do it.
