Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Got something crazy to share.
One of our adult ducks gave me a scare around midnight last night. For those who don't know, our ducks refuse to sleep inside the coop. The yard they sleep in is completely secure but I still worry whenever I go to bed.

Anyways I had let the dogs out one last time before I went to sleep and they were acting strange which they've done before whenever a single raccoon shows up. I took my dad's flashlight and went out to see what was going on. I checked the coop first because I wanted to count everyone. The hens and the ducklings were accounted for so I went to check on Mouse & her chicks in their brooder coop and they were accounted for. I was checking the ducks and noticed that Duchess wasn't accounted for. I started panicking trying to think what could have gotten in since we use hardware cloth with netting covering the hardware cloth near the top.
There's a tarp that's covering the coop and I'm sure you can guess where she was.
I noticed that there was bulge in the tarp near the entrance of the coop so I decided to lift up the tarp and out ran Duchess.

By the time I saw the tarp, I was full on crying. As soon as I found her, I got angry and forced them into the coop.

For what was freaking out the dogs... it was just White Socks, our outside cat who was hunting a mouse in the garden.

Ahhh heck But gave you a great scare huh..
I have not seen a rat in two days here did I get the last ?
I have never put little in the main coop I know the outside cats go there they will eat littles ..
Then it was the rats ? would would kill young.
I will be so happy to have a good solid coop this year

We had a similar panic the other day when we couldn't find our 1 year old pup. My son and I were out in the yard calling her (she is normally super responsive) and she was no where. We checked all the rooms in the house, got the other dog out searching through the gardens for her. We reached full panic mode so I decided re-check everything. I sent my son to look in his shed and I went to check the shop. I open the door and she is standing in there with the broody hen and chicks, been snorfling chicken poop off the floor under their cages. Sigh.

I think I had that door open all of half a second when I tossed a feed bucket in, never even went inside. I have no idea how she had snuck past me to get locked in the shop. Sigh.
