Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Just found this thread and am jumping in to introduce myself and gain some more local information. We live in Snohomish.

We had a flock of 5 chickens at our last house for 6 years. Selling the house last year, the coop and hens stayed with the new owners.

I wasn't active on BYC but have since reengaged when we decided to build a new coop for 8 hens. Here's a few pics and video of our progress.

The original coop & run:

My wife found this picture & wanted us to design around it for 8 hens:

This is what we have built so far. Our next step is to add a 10'x8' covered run:

Here is a video of our build:

That’s great! Really nice work and welcome to the thread!

Wow cool Welcome to thread

Ducks are dirtier than chickens just saying.. I admit no ducks here but it is wet straw is for barns .. pine shavings. I have pavers to the coops it is wet muddy .. One thing in common to them, They strip vegation

I have to take the broody that's in the house out for a few walks a day. She won't poop in the box even though it's big.

Today she immediately tried to run back in the house so I had to keep my body between her and the door. All that moving did get her to poop, though. Then she was allowed back in.

She has her own bowl of catfood on tap as well as crumbles so she's spoiled.

I'm expecting the hatch to start tomorrow.

I feel bad for our Black Australorp hen named Bellatrix. She managed to slip past me when I went to check on Mouse & her chick. I could tell that she was just simply curious about the little chick but Mouse was having none of that. Every time she got too close to it, Mouse would attack her.
She even chirped to the chick when she found something but Mouse didn't want it near her so she attacked Bellatrix. I finally grabbed Bellatrix and carried her back out to the others.
